Deputy Principal's Report
Mrs Alice Wigny
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a busy and productive fortnight at Oak Flats Public School - the highlight being our Swimming Scheme where we have had 120 students attend Oak Flats Public School over the last fortnight with today being their last day. Students have engaged in activities centred around water safety, stroke correction and learning how to be safe in and around water. Congratulations to all the students and teachers involved.
Early Stage 1 Excursion
Kindergarten students had a wonderful time on our excursion to the Shoalhaven Zoo on Tuesday. We were especially lucky as the weather was glorious. Students enjoyed seeing the different animals at the zoo and on occasions were able to pat and feed some of the animals. Throughout the day the children were well-behaved and well-mannered and represented Oak Flats Public School with pride! We know this is an experience they will remember for years to come!
Tell Them From Me Parent Survey
Thank you to our parents and carers who have taken the time to complete the Tell Them From Me survey. The parent survey provides us with parent and carer perspectives about the engagement and wellbeing of our students. This information is very valuable and is used to identify strengths and successes, as well as areas to target for improvement. of our students. The survey closes today Friday, 3 November.

Attendance
On occasion, children may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include:
· being sick or having an infectious disease
· having an unavoidable medical appointment
· being required to attend a recognised religious holiday
· exceptional or urgent family circumstances.
Please remember that following an absence, parents and carers are required to explain the absence within 7 days of the first day of a student’s absence. Absences can be explained via email, phone, replying to SMS notifications, or via a letter on return to school. After three days absence, a medical certificate is required.
A new Initiative that we have put in place, is the class with the highest attendance. I am pleased to announce that in Term 4, Week 3 the class with the highest attendance was 1/2C and 1T with an attendance of 97.8%. These classes received an extra 15 minutes of play time on Monday.
OFPS Merit System
With our term and the school year rapidly coming to an end, many students are working towards achieving Gold Level. Below is an overview of our school merit system, awards, and criteria for achieving gold.
Oak Flats Public School implements the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework. Our four core values are:
Safe - I control my words and actions
Respectful - I follow instructions the first time
- I contribute politely in class activities
Responsible - I am prepared for learning: right tools, right attitude
Active Learner - I focus on completing quality work efficiently
Children who are observed demonstrating PBL values in class can receive White Cards. Teachers can choose to record white cards in different ways depending on the grade level which can include on a stamp chart, digitally or by giving out white cards to be collected in envelopes.
* Bronze Level = 5 White Cards
* Silver Level = 15 White Cards
* Gold Level = 30 White Cards
Children can receive Oakie Doakies, fast and frequent awards for positive behaviour in the classroom and playground that go into a draw at the fortnightly Assembly. Oakie Doakies are stored in a giant thermometer in the school hall. Throughout the year there are whole school rewards when the Oakie Doakies fill different levels of the thermometer. Four Merit Awards are handed out per class at each fortnight Assembly.
Have a wonderful fortnight!
Warm regards,
Alice Wigny
