Principal's

Report

 Ms Jodi Niedermayer

Dear Parents, Carers and Community,

Our students are kicking goals in so many areas of school. I thoroughly love seeing such joy as students share their learning goals with me, a piece of writing, their artwork, or anything else that they feel proud of. I hope they come home and share their learning with you too! Although don’t be disheartened if they don’t, my daughter didn’t either. Our teachers are happy to provide some insight.

Although our eyes are still firmly on the (learning) prize, we have many end of year events and celebrations coming up, such as our end of year presentation assembly, student leadership process, preschool concert, Year 6 farewell and student reports. The end of year will be here in a blink of an eye!

School Bytes

Our school has transitioned to our new school finance system, School Bytes. If you haven’t already, parents are encouraged to download the School Bytes Parent Portal App. This app will allow for parents and carers to easily make payments, download receipts and conveniently complete digital permission notes. If you need any support, please contact our office so they can assist.

AECG

Last Thursday our school hosted the local AECG meeting. It was a proud moment for our school to be represented by our Aboriginal student leadership group who welcomed guests and presented in front of over 50 visitors. Congratulations to Aliah G, Alirah C, Elaine S, Eli S, Hunter S and Sienna F for working hard and proudly showcasing Aboriginal Education at our school. Thank you also to the staff who worked with these students to share their voice. We are so proud!

The next AECG meeting will be held at Dapto High School on Thursday, 30 November 2023.

Grandparents Day – Friday 10 November

We look forward to welcoming the special grandparents or family members of our students to our school on Friday 10 November. On this day, you are invited to visit classrooms and stay for a book parade, where students are invited to dress as a character from one of their favourite books. A special meal deal can be purchased from our school canteen using the Qkr app.

Planning for 2024

The time has come for our school to start considering planning for 2024. This requires a clear understanding of the number of anticipated students. If you and your family will be relocating and moving schools for 2024, please contact the office so it can be noted. It is important that we know this information as it directly impacts on the number of classes we have and therefore the number of staff required.

If you have anything you would like us to consider in regards to your child’s class for 2024 (e.g. sibling within the same class, peer relationships), please put these in writing and email to the school - oakflats-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au. All requests cannot be guaranteed, however we will always attempt to consider your requests and appreciate any information provided to us, so we can support our students. All considerations must be received by Friday, 10 November 2023.

Presentation Assembly

Our annual Presentation Assembly will be held in the Primary COLA on Monday, 11 December, commencing at 9.30am. This is a time when teachers present class awards and some very special individual awards. Student leaders for 2024 will also be announced. Please come along and join us as we celebrate some of the wonderful student and school achievements of this year.

P&C Discos – Save the Date

Our wonderful P&C have again planned to host our Term 4 discos. Please keep your eye out for further information.

· Kinder - Year 2 – Tuesday, 5 December (4pm - 5pm)

· Year 3 – Year 6 – Thursday, 7 December (4pm - 5.15pm)

Toys, Hats and Uniforms

Thank you to our families for helping to reinforce our toys at home, wearing school hats and our school uniform. It really helps when we are all working together and helps to minimise conflict at school and create a sense of belonging.

K-2 Morning Duty

Due to the number of students in the K-2 playground of a morning, no soccer games will be permitted. Instead students can play with the equipment under the COLA, handballs and play other games with their friends. We ask that parents prevent their child from bringing soccer balls and other large balls to school for their child to play with of a morning.

Tell Them From Me – Parent Survey

Thank you to the 45 parents and carers who have completed the TTFM survey. If you haven’t yet, it’s not too late, and we want your input.

This survey helps our school to understand your perspective on your child’s school experience. It provides us with areas of strength, feedback for school improvement and assists us to plan for the future.

If we are able to receive results from each family, we will better identify trends, and this will further inform school priorities. If you have two or more children, you may complete the survey again based on each child and their school experience. The survey will take around 15 minutes to complete.
