Sir John Monash Awards 2023
Chinmayi Jonnalagadda (12E1) has won two prestigious awards at the Sir John Monash Awards ceremony held at the Museum of Australian Photography, Wheelers Hill, last night.
- Sustainability Leadership award
- Overall Outstanding Leadership award
Chinmayi is the current Green Team captain and an active member of the SRC. She has been the driving force behind many successful student-led initiatives such as the house litter challenge, Brentcast, trash toss, solar buddy and many more.
Please congratulate Chinmayi on her well-deserved success!
Thanks to opportunities from the green team and Mr Kalva, I got to attend the Sir John Monash Award Ceremony at the Museum of Australian Photography. The evening started with meeting some amazing individuals such as Cr Tina Samardzija, Mr. Matt Fregon and Mr. John Mullahy.
After a special welcome and mention to the Brentwood Green Team, represented by year 12 Tracy Ho, the night began by presenting the many awards in various categories. As a huge surprise, I was lucky enough to win the Sustainable Leadership award thanks to our Green Team and the many combined efforts! We were once again surprised at the end of the night when they announced me as the winner of the overall Outstanding Leadership award. I am really grateful to be selected among the many winners who do such amazing things. It was such an amazing night listening to everyone and their stories in the community.
I would really like to thank Mr. Kalva for all the support and guidance throughout the years as this award is nothing but the combined efforts of the Brentwood Green Team and Mr. Kalva's constant support to us!
Thank you so much to the team for this opportunity and the Monash Council for selecting me! I can only dream of continuing the prestigious Brentwood Green Team legacy after I leave the school this year.

FREE Bike Safety Check Day @ Brentwood Secondary College
When: Saturday 11 November; 9:30am to 12:30pm
Where: Brentwood Basketball Courts, 65-71 Watsons Road, Glen Waverley
Free. No bookings, walk-ins only on a first-come, first-served basis.
Love your bike but not sure how to carry out basic maintenance for a safe ride? We can help.
Brainwave Bikes will be providing free bike safety checks at Brentwood Secondary College on Saturday 11 November (between 9:30am and 12:30pm).
Watch and learn while a bike mechanic completes a bike safety check and demonstrates basic, minor repairs.
In the event that you have a short wait, you can watch and learn as the mechanic demonstrates on other bikes. For more complicated repairs, that require a visit to a bike store, the mechanic will also help make the process easier by assessing your bike and describing what repairs may be needed.
Brought to you by Monash Council and the Brentwood Green Team
Year 11 Environmental Science – Oz Harvest donations
Oz Harvest HQ was very excited to receive the 50 kilos of pantry staples and other goodies from Brentwood SC Environmental Science Class, Year 11.
The teacher, Mr Venkata Kalva and students did a food drive to assist Oz Harvest as they are studying food insecurity, which is rapidly on the rise.
The class had a visit from Katharine Balson, the Victorian Education Coordinator, who spoke about Oz Harvest and also the issues with food waste. She found the class to be knowledgeable and engaged.
These generous donations will be given out to members of the community who are in need, and we are very grateful for your support.
