Health Industry Immersion Day

On the 12th of October, around 50 of Brentwood students attended the Health Industry Immersion Day at Holmesglen TAFE for students to get hands on experience in the Health Industry. Students had the opportunity to complete various practical tasks and a live simulation usually reserved for Diploma and bachelor students only. The activities included demonstrations on patient transfer from nurse to nurse, CPR on a dummy and a chance for students to take plasma samples and carry out urine analysis in a Pathology laboratory. As well as dispel any lies about medicine they show on TV drama shows 😆.

Overall, the experience was insightful, students got to ask questions to health professionals, teachers and medical students about career pathways in Health as well as information about VET programs so students can make more informed decisions about their future. I would definitely recommend the program for students curious about a career in Health as the event was informative and very engaging. Additionally, all students receive a badge detailing that they completed the Industry Immersion Day that can be shown on your resume.

Food Studies Salvation Army Fundraiser

This term, the Year 11 Food Studies course has had a focus on our food systems and food security.  On Tuesday 17th October, the Unit 2 (Year 11) Food Studies class completed a Fund raiser raising money for The Salvation Army community meals program. This was the practical component of their assessment where they chose to design and make a vast array of food items to sell to their Year 11 peers and staff. The students were all very proud of their productions and feel delighted to be able to donate $350 to such a great cause that supports Food Security in our local community.

German Careers Day at Melbourne University

On Friday the 27th of October, the Year 11 and Year 10 German Class embarked on an exciting journey to Melbourne University. We went there in the hopes of learning about all the opportunities pursuing German in the future. The day was very exciting as we got to sit in lecture theatres listening to university students tell us how taking German has helped them in their learning journey as well as their professors telling us how beneficial studying German can be.

The most eye opening moment was the realisation that we could go on an exchange program to Germany to further encourage both our languages skills as well as the opportunity to pursue a chance to study in one of the academic countries in the world.

Everyone really enjoyed the day and all the potential doors it may have opened are sure to be beneficial to everyone who went. Also, if you aren’t continuing to do German in high school, many universities offer beginner classes meaning you can pick it up again later if you wish to do so. As has been mentioned it can really be life changing and it is highly recommended.

House Day - 31st October

Our final house day for the year was held on Tuesday the 31st of October!

During the day students were able to wear free dress as long as you bring a $2 donation. House points were awarded for students wearing their house colours, and a bonus of 10 house points allocated if you are dressed related to your house mascot.

The aim of House Day is to bring us together as a whole school community and promote house culture. For this term’s house day classroom activities were held during the Aspire period. There were also lunchtime activities including..

• Just Dance in the TLC space

• Skipping ropes on the basketball court

• Music in the western courtyard with an opportunity for students to get up and sing at the open mic!

It was an amazing school event!
