What's On In Art
Preps
This term the Preps have started their first artist study! They’ve been diving into the wonderful creative world of Paul Klee. The Preps have explored the techniques and motivations of Klee, from overlapping shapes and continuous lines, to capturing dreams and expressive colour choices.
What's On In Art
1/2s
The Grade 1/2s have been focussing on Australian mixed media artist, Liz Payne. The 1/2s are now well versed in what abstract organic shapes are and how they differ from geometric shapes/realism. They created the centre focus of their artwork using a unique abstraction process! Firstly by making up words (some of our favourites were ‘zloop’ and catryt’). Then they drew how they thought the word would look if it were a shape. After this the Grade 1/2s added a variety of textures to their work using plasticine and sand. These artworks are bold, funky and were so much fun to make!
3/4s
Textile art with a cause! The grade 3/4s have been looking at Victoria Villasana, a contemporary textile artist from Mexico. She embroiders colourful details and empowering slogans onto portraits of influential people who have inspired positive change. The 3/4s have thoroughly enjoyed choosing someone they admire and have begun the meticulous process of embroidering. We’re very excited to see how these artworks come together!
5/6s
This term it’s been Pop Art sculptures for the Grade 5/6s! They explored both modernist and contemporary artists such as: Claus Oldenberg, Kenny Pittock, and Stephanie H. Shih. First up they created a biccie using plasticine to practise sculpting food realistically. Then they zoned in on precise, mathematical drawings of packaging (big thanks to our special guest Mrs Mac!) all these skills combined to support the Grade 5/6s with sculpting ice creams, choccies and other treats using air dry clay. After a coat of paint, it will be impossible to tell what’s clay and what’s real!
Some of these fabulous works will be on display at the Specialist Expo in Term 4, Wednesday 30th of October (Week 4). We can’t wait to share all of our creative artworks with you!
