Grade 2 Community News

Dear PLC, 2 Families,

As we near the conclusion of another successful term, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude for your ongoing support. It was truly a pleasure to celebrate the progress and achievements of our students during the recent Open Day, and the children thoroughly enjoyed sharing their learning experiences with you.

Reading

In our ‘Read to Learn’ sessions, we have been analysing how Roald Dahl skilfully crafts his stories using techniques such as characterisation, foreshadowing, setting, and language features. The students have also enjoyed participating in Readers Theatre, where they collaborate with their peers to perform scripts and bring characters to life through expressive reading.

Writing

Our writing lessons have continued to focus on Roald Dahl’s works, seamlessly integrating concepts from our reading unit. Students have been exploring both internal and external character traits, and they have even applied their learning by creating their own characters, drawing inspiration from Dahl’s unique storytelling. They have also explored realistic and unrealistic features within Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Maths

In maths, we have been concentrating on division, exploring various strategies to solve division problems. These strategies include grouping, commutativity, and repeated subtraction.

Vocabulary and Morphology

In morphology, we have been studying the prefix “dis-” and its impact on word meaning, particularly how it modifies words to convey the sense of "not" or "opposite."

In vocabulary we looked at the following words:

We hope all our TRPS families have a safe and restful break, and we look forward to seeing our students back in Term 4 for another term full of learning and growth! :)
