SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Our school and local area again demonstrated our outstanding resilience and sense of community earlier this week as some extreme weather came through. While our school did not lose power or suffer any damage through this, we are aware that many members of our community had some challenging days without power and needing to attend to damage to their property and possessions. We hope the life has now returned to normal for all our community members.

Furthermore, with many roads blocked on Monday, several staff and some of our busses were unable to travel to school, and therefore we weren’t able to run our usual classes. We thank all staff and students for their co-operation this week as we ran a reduced program to start this week.

Last night I had the pleasure of watching our bi-annual A Night to Remember variety show. This year’s theme was “Aussie As” and all acts were highly entertaining. At KSC we are very proud of the opportunities and pathways our mainstream program provides our students, and we are equally proud of the opportunities and pathways offered to our students through our extra-curricular activities. For the students who performed last night who will end up in a career in the Performing Arts, last night was a great opportunity for them to continue to develop their special talents. For students who may not end up in a career in Performing Arts, events like last night provide them with the opportunity to develop incredibly valuable skills and capabilities that will continue to benefit them in all areas of life.

A huge thank you to Liesl Reymers, Rosie Handley, Izzy Kennedy and Rhiannen John for their work putting this performance on. Thank you also to all the SGSMP music staff for their ongoing work with our instrumental music students and their work on last night’s show. And a final thank you to Donna Muldoon for her work photographing and filming this year’s A Night to Remember.

Our Grade 6 to Year 7 transition program has continued this term. Earlier this term we returned to each of our local primary schools to provide their Grade 6 students with more information about the move to secondary school next year. On the last three days of this term, all of next year’s Year 7 students will be spending three days at Korumburra Secondary College completing a program of classes and activities. This is always a wonderful few days as we get to know these students better, and they start to become more confident and comfortable at our school. We look forward to continuing to work with these students throughout the rest of 2024, then welcoming them to Year 7 next year.
