Rowing Report
It's been a brilliant start to the rowing season, with sessions back in full swing across all age groups. Our mighty juniors have had an incredible introduction to the sport. We are fortunate to have 10 of our Senior Rowers from Year 11 and Year 12 at each session guiding them through the Learn to Row program. A big thank you to all the Seniors who have generously given their time, expertise, and patience!
Already, the Juniors have been progressing well, with crews confidently punching out 500 to 750 meters as a full crew without any mistakes. Keep up the amazing work!
As for the Seniors, it’s been business as usual, they have returned with renewed energy, which has been fantastic to witness.
Last week, we had the honour of being joined by Alec Hoskin, (Kinross Wolaroi Captain of Boats, 2022). Alec recently returned to Australia days ago after competing at the Under 23 World Championships in Canada. He joined the Seniors for Wednesday fitness and the Juniors for their Thursday morning water session. It’s fair to say there was a buzz amongst both groups with Alec’s presence, and his insights have already left a lasting impact! We look forward to more inspiring moments as the season progresses. Keep up the positive energy, everyone!
Good luck to all winter sports finalists and best wishes to all on your summer sport pursuits.

Netball Report
Finals Week 1
The first week of finals at Kinross Wolaroi has provided an exciting and intense display of netball, with many of our teams stepping up to the challenge. The competition was fierce, and while some results didn’t go our way, it was inspiring to see the determination, resilience, and sportsmanship shown by all players.
In the junior division, KWS 13A put on an impressive effort but unfortunately lost 22-25 in a close contest against Waratahs. KWS 13B also faced a tough opponent, falling 16-23 to Hawks. However, KWS 13C brought home a strong 21-15 win over CYMS, securing their spot in the Semi-Finals. KWS 14A had a hard-fought match, but despite their best efforts, they were edged out 16-22 by Hawks. A major highlight of the junior finals came from KWS 14C, who delivered a fantastic 34-30 win over OAGS, progressing straight to the Grand Final and enjoying a well-earned week off. The KWS 15A team faced a nail-biting match, narrowly losing 40-43 to Hawks, while KWS 15C also played a close game but fell just short with a 13-16 loss to Orange United. KWS 15B, on the other hand, delivered a commanding performance, securing a 56-8 victory over Waratahs. KWS 15D battled through an intense match but were narrowly defeated 36-39 by Life Studios. Despite this, the 15D team will continue their journey into the Semi-Finals.
In the senior division, KWS Sky and KWS Navy went head-to-head, with KWS Navy emerging victorious with a 35-26 win, progressing into the Semi-Finals. KWS Sky, although disappointed, should be proud of their efforts this season. KWS 3rds played a thrilling match but were narrowly defeated 50-53 by OCNC, while KWS 2nds faced a heartbreaking 41-42 loss to Hawks. Both teams, however, will continue to compete in the Semi-Finals.
As we look ahead, the following teams will advance to the Semi-Finals: KWS 2nds, KWS 3rds, KWS Navy, KWS 15Ds, KWS 15Bs, KWS 14As, KWS 13Cs, and KWS 13As. The 14C team has secured their spot in the Grand Final and will enjoy a well-earned week off. The season has been filled with growth, challenges, and incredible displays of teamwork. Best of luck to all our teams in the next round!

Weekly Hockey Update: Finals Fever!
Congratulations to the U16 Royal Team!
The U16 Royal team has progressed to the grand final, which will take place on Monday, 16th September. The team showed incredible determination in the major semi-final, battling hard to secure a well-deserved win against Molong. The grand final is set for 5:30 pm at the Orange Hockey Centre, and the U16 Royal team would love your support at the game. Let’s cheer them on to victory!
U14 Blue Team’s Strong Season Comes to an End
Our U14 Blue team faced off against Molong in the minor semi-final. Despite missing a few key players due to illness and exchange commitments, the team hit the field with great positivity and played an impressive game. Although Molong proved too strong, the girls showed tremendous spirit and should be proud of their efforts throughout the season. Well done, U14 Blue, on a fantastic year!
1sts Fight Hard in the Major Semi-Final
The 1sts took on Molong in the major semi-final on Sunday in what turned out to be a nail-biting contest. After a fiercely competitive game, the teams were locked at 1-1 at the end of regular time. Fifteen minutes of extra time couldn't separate the teams, leading to a tense penalty shoot-out. Unfortunately, Molong edged us out in the shoot-out, which is always a high-pressure situation.
For those unfamiliar, in a shoot-out, the goalkeeper begins on or behind the goal line while the attacker starts outside the 23m area with the ball placed on the line opposite the goal. The whistle blows, and the players have eight seconds to decide the outcome—a stressful moment for everyone involved.
Despite the tough result, our 1sts are not out of the race yet! They will play the preliminary final this Sunday, where they’ll have another chance to make it to the grand final. We wish them the best of luck and hope to see everyone there to support!
Hockey Presentation Reminder
A reminder that the Hockey Presentation is on Sunday, 22 September, at the Dorothy Knox Hall, PLC. We look forward to seeing you there to celebrate a fantastic hockey season. Please see the Hub for more details.
Let’s get behind our teams and show the KWS spirit!

Football Report
The U13 squad has had an excellent season. They headed into the finals series in 4th place with 8 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses. They approached the game with much enthusiasm. It was a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to a bigger and more powerful team. The goal was an excellent strike from Lachie Turnbull. The defense was tight with Sam Adetifa, Brooke Howard, Rhys Ervin and Ewen Kerridge working hard. Behind them Liam Varia in Goal was immense making many saves. The midfield of Jim Jones, Ed McGilvray, Jock Morgan, Austin Wark Harry Kensit and Gavin Fan shoed the passing and communication which have become a hallmark of the season. It was an encouraging end to the season.
Ladies’ 1sts
The ladies approached the finals series with a sense of trepidation. Whilst training hard and improving every session the results were not really coming on the field. It was a huge effort to stay in touch with Ex-Services. The eventual score was 3-2. A great header was scored by Poppy Gordon and the Captain Lucy Ashton also slotted one away.
Men’s 1sts
With a young inexperienced squad this season it was always going to be a difficult season, however, the positives in the team's play and attitude have led to a huge improvement of standards and results in the latter half of the season. With the finals series upon them, the boys leapt to an early 3-0 lead. George Conin struck with a couple of well taken opportunities and Mr Willis calmly slotted from the edge of the box. With the triangle and passing of the first 25 minutes evaporating as half time approached Waratah’s finally stuck and the score was 3-1 at half time. Ashton Quinn-Woonton was excellent in goal and Eli Cunningham, Cameron Nash, Ales Smith and George Hogg were immense at the back. Pranav Srikanth, Hamish Hall, Daniel Lord and Alex Caban all worked hard to keep creating chances at the other end. The match finished 3-3 and extra time was called for. KWS kept on the attack and the match seemed like a basketball game with chances at either end. With just one minute to go Alex Caban crossed for Daniel Lord to calmly slot in his most important goal of the season.
Rugby Report
Whilst our boys finished their Rugby season two weeks ago, our Girls Rugby 7s teams have still been heading to Sydney. After 5 weeks of competition, I am excited to announce that all 5 of our teams have qualified for the Finals this weekend. Each team will play a semi-final this Saturday and if they win they will go straight through the Grand Final later in the day. This an enormous achievement from our Girls who are in the first year of full competition. We are taking a student supporters bus and we are looking forward to seeing and hearing them in full voice in support of our Girls. It will be a great day so best of luck this weekend.
Our Presentation Night will take place in the DPA on Friday 20 September from 5.00pm - 6.00pm. All players and parents are welcome to attend and there is no cost or booking required for this event.
Following the Presentation, our Rugby Club will be hosting a parents only celebration at the Waratahs Sports Club beginning at 6.30pm.
