Oatlands Primary School Bird Sanctuary
This week, a group of Grade 5 students have been working on building a new bird sanctuary on the grounds of OPS. The sanctuary was designed by the Grade 5 students and it is located by the picnic benches, near the Grade 4 portable classrooms. The aim of the sanctuary is to attract birds which are vulnerable or threatened in the wild and provide them with a place for food and shelter.
The sanctuary is currently in its early stages and you may have noticed some small shrubs and plants, which have been newly planted in the area. There will be more work done in the area in Term 3 and Term 4. Whilst we encourage visitors to come and admire the work done so far, we are requesting that our school community to be mindful around the area, in the coming weeks, to ensure that the plants and shrubs aren’t damaged in any way. Potential dangers to the garden may be sports equipment thrown into the area, litter, or younger children running onto the area.
Once completed, the sanctuary will grow into a great space for both wildlife and the school community. We hope that our community will support us in ensuring that the space is given the care it requires to flourish.
