Preps

Our Prep students have been working hard to learn lots of animal words in Japanese. They have learnt two songs, ‘Panda, Usagi, Koara’ and ‘Kobuta, Tanuki, Kitsune, Neko’, to learn the words. They have also been learning how to read the words in Japanese and write them in hiragana. We have enjoyed playing games, singing songs and practicing our writing together.

Grade One

Grade One students have just completed our unit based on the story of The Enormous Turnip in Japanese. During this unit, students learnt the key vocabulary from the story, where they were able to correctly match and identify the words, as well as write them in hiragana. Students have used their mini story book to retell the story to others.

Grade Two

Grade Two students are currently in the middle of learning about the names for items found in a school bag. They will use these words to make sentences to state what it is and what is not inside their bag. They have also been learning how to ask for and receive objects in Japanese.

Grade Three

Grade Three students have just completed a unit based on the story of The Mitten. Students have learnt animal words, as well as some Japanese words for some expressions in Japanese. They put these nouns, adjectives, verbs and expressions together to make sentences to retell the story.

Grade Four

Throughout this term, our Grade Four students have been continuing to learn and practice the names of 15 body parts in Japanese. They will use these words to ask questions and make statements to each other when they perform role plays about going to the doctor.

Grade Five

Grade Five students have just completed presenting their weather reports in Japanese. They have just started learning a new unit of work based on the famous Japanese sport of Sumo wrestling. During this unit, students will learn how to state their name, age, nationality and height in Japanese. They will also research a real sumo wrestler to present this information about them to the class.

Grade Six

Our Grade Six students have just completed their unit of work based on the story book of The Very Hungry Caterpillar (‘harapeko aomushi’ はらぺこあおむし). Students were required to write their own sentences in Japanese based on the vocabulary and sentence structure we had learnt in class. They also needed to present their sentences to the class.

Staying with the theme of food, the final unit of work for the Grade Six students will be based on a role play of ordering food items at a fast food restaurant, as well as using the correct currency (Japanese yen) to pay for their items.
