AUTISM INCLUSION TEACHER

T3 2024

What an amazing start we had to our Talking Neurodivergence, Community Sessions. For me the highlight, apart from hearing from Mark and Will (who gave great insight into his education journey and the positive career path he’s carved for himself), was the feeling in the room at the end of the session. It was evident that a safe environment had been created; it genuinely warmed my heart to see individuals/ families connecting with each other, sharing lived experience, and people seeking support from Mark, Will and the pop-up stall providers that were in attendance. I feel these aspects alone made the night a success.

These Talking ND community sessions were born out of a HEPS AIT initiative and informed by parent voice. There’s a great need in society to build knowledge and understanding of the diversity of brains and we hope that this assist in breaking down the many barriers which our neurodivergent friends face every day. Our aim is to build capacity in this area because when we ‘know better, we do better.’ Uncle Micky (seen at the AIT conference) shared that ‘people of difference take us to a place where we are beyond going ourselves, to a place of higher learning’. This sentiment, not only true, bring light to valuing different neurotypes…

The next community session with Madhavi Nawana Parker, is on Tuesday, the 5th of November. This session will take us through Resilience, Wellbeing & Neurodivergence. I hope we see you there…
