News and Notices

From the Acting Principal

The end of Term 3 is near with only 2 days to go before the school holidays are upon us. This is my last school newsletter as Acting Principal . I want to thank everyone for their support, especially from the wonderful staff. I wouldn't have been able to do the job with out their help and support. Also I want to say thank you to the children for being my cheerleaders and sideline supporters.

Term 4 is going to be busy so please make sure you check out the important dates to find out what is happening.  I will also be sending out reminder emails over the holidays, keep a look out for them.

Construction work around the school

As you have noticed that  there is lots of work happening around the school. It is only going to get busier over the school holidays.

The school grounds will unfortunately be out of bounds over the holidays. This is due to construction work being done in and around the school.

For safety reasons the gates will be locked so no public will be allowed to enter.

We understand that this will be an inconvenience but safety is  important.

All the children will be informed and reminded of what is happening. Please pass this information around especially to the older children in  families. We do not want people jumping the fence or trying to gain access.

Powhiri/Welcome for Miss Prentice

We will be holding a welcome/powhiri on Monday 14 October at 9am (first day of school in term 4) for Miss Prentice, our new principal.

Children will need to bring a plate to share for kai after the ceremony.

We would love for parents and whanau to join us for the morning.

Morning Tea - Mrs Kemball

Last Thursday we had a shared morning tea with the children, staff and whanau to farewell Mrs Kemball. Thank you to all the parents and whanau from who came, we know Rachael really appreciated it.

After the shared morning tea, the children and staff got together and sung Mrs Kemball our farewell song and presented her with a personalised booklet of memories made by the children, and a gift from the staff.

Lots of tears were shed by everyone. Mrs Kemball you will be missed.

Trophies from Prizegiving

If you received a school trophy from last years prizegiving, these need to be returned back to school by the end of week 3, Term 4.

Pie Fundraiser

In week 2, term 4 we will be doing Pie fundraiser through Oxford Pies. People will be able to purchase family pies, lunch size pies, sausage rolls and lamingtons.  Keep an eye out for the fundraiser order forms next term.

Hapori Friday - Term 3

Every Friday we run our Hapori Friday. The idea for the activities  come from the interest of the children and the teachers choose which one they would like to oversee and run.  This term the activities on offer were:

Book club

For this group they looked at books they read and wrote reviews about them. The created signs and decorations for the library, craft activities about books and painted book spines on wood to put in the garden.

Games

This group looked at the different types of board and card games that you can play.

Some children created their own board game, jigsaws and designed card games based on games they liked playing. Other children made game pieces from tinfoil and clay.

Movie making

We looked at stop motion was made and then had a go at making our own using lego. The children learnt that it takes patience and lots and lots of photos to create a short movie. We also had a go at planning a scene, acting it out and filming it. We looked at the different types of shots that are used in movies.

Hats

Term 4 means that the children are required to wear their school hat. Please make sure your child has one and it is named on the inside. Hats can be purchased from Kalene at the office for $15.
