Student Leaders' Report
Student Voice at Truganina College
I am delighted to announce the introduction of the new Welcome pass at Truganina College!
At Truganina College, a late pass was traditionally given to students who arrived after nine o'clock, signaling their tardiness. Unfortunately, this demotivated students and failed to engage them. These orange plastic passes did little to encourage punctuality. To address this issue, a contest was held for the year 5 students in 2023 to design a new welcome pass. After selecting the winning design, created by Yug Kiri, some adjustments were made before the final product was produced.
After several months, the new Welcome Pass was ready. It was then created on Canva and subsequently printed for review. Finally, the proposed design was presented to Mrs. Williams, who was highly impressed and approved its use on official business cards. She particularly appreciated the incorporation of TRP (The Resilience Project), which aligns with the school's main wellbeing focus. Each card also featured a small question for students to ponder on their way to class such as ‘What are three things that you are grateful for at school?
The new welcome passes were presented to the School Leadership Team and then our amazing Admin staff members before they were ready to be launched!
This improvement in the school's system is expected to have a significant impact on student wellbeing and mental health, transforming the way students approach their daily school routine. It has been amazing to be involved in designing and implementing this initiative at the school that was driven by student voice under the leadership of Miss Tooze and the Student Engagement team.
