From the Principal

Dear Families,
We are officially three quarters of the way through the year. It really is hard to believe we only have one term left of 2024! Term 3 has been action packed with learning and events and has certainly been a busy term for both staff and students alike!
In Week 1 we celebrated our NAIDOC week with a Smoking Ceremony and Noongar language lessons. Throughout the term we continued with our commitment to our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)and are proud to announce that the commitments have been approved by Narragunnawali. Once the layout has received final approval we look forward to sharing it with the whole school community. Special thanks to all contributors can be found inside the document, and I am sure everyone will enjoy the artwork as it is another piece by Bianca Willder, the same artist who painted all the classroom signs. We are very grateful to have been given permission to photograph her work and use it in our RAP. The original hangs proudly in our office and can be viewed by all. We also had Brett Collard visit to do a Welcome to Country and rename the Houses. It was a lovely way to start the Athletics Day and I myself also received a new name - Boordiya Yok (Boss Lady)!
The annual Book Week Parade in Week 5 was well attended by families. It was wonderful to see such extremely well thought out costumes- the choices definitely give us some insight into the types of books our students love to read. As always, thank you Ms Pryce for organising the week’s events and activities, and for setting up the Book Fair. Thank you families for supporting the School by purchasing at the Book Fair, all proceeds received from Scholastic return to the school for further book purchases.
Being winter we were really able to enjoy the athletic activities scheduled for Term 3. Activities included Jumps and Throws Day, the Athletics Carnival, Cross Country, and morning fitness on the oval. We thank Mr H and Mrs Miller for organisation and set up, the P&F for organising lunches, bake sales, and all parents who volunteered their time to help us make these events the success they were.
Families were able to enjoy three assembly items this term, one from the Swans, one from the Bilby class, and one from the choir. Well done Ms Turner, Ms Pryce and Mrs Rosario for the fabulous items- we definitely have some budding actors in our midst, and I am sure all parents felt very proud.
Speaking of performances, I was very proud to watch our students again perform at One Big Voice. One Big Voice is Australia’s largest choir and is held at RAC Arena. Thank you to Mrs Rosario and Mr Keshwar for preparing our students, and for the additional hours put in on weekends to attend the training sessions our students really enjoy the experience and appreciate your efforts. Make sure you look at the photos on the excursions tab, they are fabulous!
We finished the term with Science Week and the theme 'Species Survival – More Than Just Sustainability' was explored in classrooms. The end of term incursion ‘The Supersonic Science Show’ captured our students attention and was a wonderful way to finish the term. To coincide with this the School Leaders organised a Crazy Sock Day for the last day of term which was great fun.
The P&F again supported the school and provided social opportunities for our community. This term we thank them for organising the Father’s Day Breakfast, Teacher Wish List, lunches and bake sales, and the RUOk Day stickers! The P&F are all parent volunteers who contribute to the well-being of our school in a number of important ways and love it when new members join us. Please feel free to join us at for a coffee and chat our next meeting at Organic Circle.

At Pioneer Village School, we are very proud of the education we provide. On top of the mandated curriculum, our students are able to participate in extra-curricular activities such as STEAM, G&T LEAP, Drama, and Performing Arts programs. Being a small school, our staff know our students well, and are able to identify and cater to our students’ needs and identify their interests and abilities. Because of this, we are able to support parents with various scholarship applications. This has resulted in a number of our students receiving scholarships to High Schools such as John Curtin College of the Arts, Perth Modern, Rossmoyne High School, Trinity College, and Guildford Grammar.
At PVS our students have been nurtured, taught strong values, and once they graduate they are ready to spread their wings and take on new challenges. The benefits of nurturing and guiding children in primary school years cannot be understated. We know that if we get it right in the primary school years, our children can be trusted to head out into high school, make new friends, form new bonds, and possibly even reinvent themselves if they wish! We know they will be able to demonstrate their values, be trusted to make great choices, and be kind and respectful human beings. We also can be fairly certain they will know that they are expected to make safe and kind choices because that’s what PVS taught them. This is very evident in the fact that there has consistently been a 100% acceptance rate of PVS students at Lumen Christi College due to the nature of the students that graduate from here, a fact we are very proud of.
As many families with older children will agree, by Year 5 it becomes very obvious as to what piques our children’s interests, and it is the right time for families to begin thinking about what school can provide the opportunities that fit their child. The opportunities out there are endless. If your child has a talent that they wish to pursue, I highly encourage families to carefully consider researching a school that meets their needs.
To ensure that your child has an opportunity to attend one of the programs at the aforementioned Colleges it’s imperative families stay on top of the key application dates put out by the Department of Education each year as well as scholarship testing dates at private schools. The Education Department key dates and guidelines are on the Department’s website- please follow the link for further information https://www.education.wa.edu.au/gifted-and-talented
I look forward to sharing the final approved RAP document with our school community next term. I am sure you are all looking forward to the holidays and I hope that everyone enjoys their time together. See you all back at school refreshed after the break.
Warm regards,
Louise Lont
