SPORT

We have had such a big last month that SPORT needed its own section. From state finals to past alumni achieving great success it's all happening at Lysterfield!

Eastern Regional Boys Netball Invitational

Three Lysterfield teams competed in the biggest Boys Netball Day in the State in early November at the new Knox Regional Centre in Ferntree Gully.  It was a wonderful day for our boys in grade 5/6 to attend with an additional 550 boys, participating in fantastic games of Netball. Each team played 7  games against teams across the breadth of the Eastern Metro Region. The games were fast, full of athleticism, and highly entertaining to watch for everyone in attendance.

The day was a great way to highlight the benefits of netball to boys and their families and how the times of 'Boys sport' and 'Girls sport' are well and truly over because it's just 'SPORT!' and should be enjoyed by all.

The Boys 12yrs State Team coach was in attendance and remarked on the standard of the event, pointing out a number of our students in the process.

As a region event it's a project of mine I've had in the works for a while and to see the enjoyment on the faces of the boys, their families, and teachers was truly satisfying.

A massive thanks to Mr Mac for his support for the day as the team leader, head coach, and no.1 cheerleader for the event, as a former state netballer himself it meant a lot to him and I'm glad the event was fantastic.

Huge thanks to Matt Krawczyk, Bianca Pilkington, and Kristen Burke for Coaching our teams and providing valuable insight into the game that enabled the boys to be the best they could be on the day.

Congratulations on the boys' efforts as they came away from the day with an amazing experience and recognition for hard work.

Team Results:

Boys A- 2nd Place

Boys B- 1st Place

Boys C- 4th Place

Congrats also to Flynn S on finishing 2nd in the Best and Fairest voting on the day!

Girls State Softball Finals

The team approached the day with a keen eye on giving their best. Since the introduction of Fully Loaded Softball 5 years ago the standard of match play has risen with State finals hotly contested. Our team played extremely well and continued to show growth in skills and tactical play. The team finished 3rd in their pool losing to the eventual State Champions by a handful of runs, the Girls were their toughest opponent of the whole day. Lysterfield was 6th overall in the State a fantastic result.

The Girls had shown an amazing ability to grow in skill and tactical knowledge of the game over the length of the competition. They are fast and adaptable, traits that make them formidable opponents.  Well, Done Girls!

Girls State Teeball Finals

Our Girls were at it again! They had to wait following the postponement in September but it was great to be with the team as they played outstanding teeball amongst the top teams in Victoria. Finishing the round-robin with a 2-1 record, the percentage was used to separate teams for a spot in the final. Unfortunately, the girls missed the final by a handful of runs but finished the day as the 3rd ranked team in Victoria, what an achievement!

I could not be prouder of the Girls and how they managed the tactical challenge on the day. Their teamwork and growth in the game have been a joy to watch.  Huge thanks to our amazing parents and family members attending the day to show support whether as cheer squad, warm-up trainers, or water mum/dad it was fantastic. Special thanks to Madison Wright who acted in rule clarification and tactical research. We always need some good data to drive success.

Hooptime Basketball State Championships

Over two days 3 of our All-Star Basketball teams participated in the Hooptime Basketball State Finals at Dandenong Stadium. Or 5/6 Boys, 3/4 Boys, and 3/4 Girls teams played exceptional Basketball against the state’s best. It was a hard physical day which the kids fully enjoyed. Our parent support once again was outstanding as they rode the highs and lows of a great day of competition.

At the end of the day our teams finished in the top 20 schools in all of Victoria, not bad having 3 teams from a single school obtain such a feat..

Huge thanks to Miss Ibbotson, Dwain Scott, and Beau Harris who were outstanding coaches on the day. To the parents and families’ members who stepped in as scorers and assistants on the day thanks so much. Thanks to Miss Emonson for attending as team manager for the senior day too.

FINAL PLACING IN VICTORIA!!!

Riding to National Success

Lacey G in grade 6 has been competing in BMX for countless years. The intensity and thrill of the race drive her the keep pushing her limits. Riders from around the country descended on Shepparton in early November to test themselves in the biggest race of the year. Lacey performed brilliantly achieving 10th place in her category. Congratulations on your national placing and an amazing effort!

Gymnastics State Gold!

Helena K from Grade 6 participated at the State Gymnastics Championships which was held in Geelong. As a member of the Knox Gymnastics Team, she competed across a range of events against the states best. Her team and her performed exceptionally well to walk away with the state title in the Vault event while also placing 6th on the floors. Helena worked extremely hard at a sport that demands so much. Congratulations on an amazing achievement Helena!

School Sport Region Co-ordinator of the Year 2023- Thanks for all the Support!

I'd like to say thank you to the Lysterfield community for their kind messages following my recognition by School Sport Victoria as Primary Region Co-ordinator of the Year for 2024. The support from the Lysterfield leadership, staff, and community enables me to help drive a positive impact for children across the Eastern Metro area while allowing me to advocate for advancements in funding support and opportunities for children at the state level. It also provides me the opportunity to bring best practice and knowledge to Lysterfield first to keep our students at the forefront of sports education and opportunities.

LYSTER ALUMNI- PE/SPORT

Caleb W- Australian Rules Football (Alumni 2017)

Tristan F- Track and Field (Alumni 2022)

Tristan competed for Victoria at the recent National Track and Field Championships held in Perth. He participated in the Triple jump, an event he holds every Lysterfield boys record except for the one that was affected by COVID.
