MOUNT PLEASANT ROAD NUNAWADING PRIMARY SCHOOL

November 2023

Dear resident,

As you may be aware, in the 2022–23 State Budget, the Victorian Government invested $9.982 million in Mount Pleasant Road Nunawading Primary School. We are modernising the school to give students better learning opportunities. This includes upgrading classrooms in Building 1.

Upcoming works

A builder has now been appointed and works are due to commence on site in the coming week.

Works may include installation of site amenities and fencing, demolition works, construction, landscaping and heavy machinery at times.

Construction is forecast for completion by Quarter 2, 2025.

Asbestos removal works will take place as part of this project. The health and safety of the school and local community is paramount, and any identified asbestos will be removed in strict accordance with occupational health and safety regulations and will be lodged with WorkSafe Victoria.

A licensed asbestos removalist will remove the materials under the supervision of an independent occupational hygienist, who will also conduct air monitoring. The hygienist will also issue a clearance certificate to ensure the building is safe for general access on completion of the works. No asbestos works will be scheduled for removal while students or staff are on site.

Construction hours will comply with Whitehorse City Council guidelines and the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) regulations.

We will strive to maintain the privacy of all residents and business owners and to minimise potential disruptions throughout the project.

Two Mini Lunches

As students return back to the routines of school we notice they need more food in their lunch boxes. We often talk about two mini lunches to help. Students will often finish their lunch at lunch time and then not have anything for recess. Jane and Rahima have been helping out this week with extra fruit for students who are hungry. Lunch time is 11.30am - 12.30pm with students having had three 50 minute sessions of learning and then recess follows another two 50 minute sessions of learning, with a 30 minute break at 2.10pm to 2.40pm.

Senior Choir Community Performance

Our Senior Choir students have been invited to perform at Forest Hill Chase Community Centre on Friday 1st December 2023. Students will perform at the Community Hub opposite Australian Post on Level 2. This will give the students the opportunity to perform outside the school creating a stronger bond with the community as well as continuing the students growth as performers.

Senior Choir members will be walking to and from Forest Hill Chase. In the case of severe weather we will postpone the event to another day and all families of choir members will be notified. Students will start walking at 9.15am with Miss Glen and accompanying parent helpers. The performance will start at approximately 10.15am.After the performance the students will walk back to school arriving around lunchtime.

Participating students are required to wear the school short sleeve polo t-shirt for the performance. They will also need to bring a drink bottle and hat for the walk. We welcome any families and members of the MPRPS community to drop into Forest Hill and support our wonderful Senior Choir on the day!

Please contact Emily Glen with any questions.
