2024 NAPLAN Tests

Important Information for Parents/ Carers

The NAPLAN (National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy) for 2024 for Year 3 and 5 students will be held between the Wednesday 13 March and Monday 25 March . NAPLAN tests seek to measure student performance standards Nationally across Writing, Reading, Language Conventions (Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation) and Numeracy.

In 2024, year 3 and 5 NAPLAN Tests will be conducted ONLINE. The year 3 writing test will be done on paper.Students will be provided with the opportunity to become familiar with the test online environment over the coming weeks. Teachers will reassure students that they are only asked to try their best on these tests and will be given class time to complete practice tests in preparation.

Students will require headphones as well as a their laptop fully charged as usual.

The results of the March NAPLAN tests will provide information for students, parents, and the school. Testing data is used to inform teaching programs leading to improved student achievement.

The four NAPLAN Tests, varying from 40 minutes to 50 minutes, will be spaced over the NAPLAN Test Weeks. All students (Years 3 & 5) are expected to participate in NAPLAN tests. During NAPLAN test weeks (Weeks 7 to 9 of Term 1), catch-up tests will be available for individuals who are absent on test days.

Support can be arranged for students with additional needs if the student uses similar support for classroom tasks.

Exemptions

(from undertaking one or more NAPLAN tests) may be requested by parents or guardians for students with significant needs and for students who have been learning English for less than one year.  Parental consent is required before exemptions can be finalised.

Later in the year you will receive your child's personal NAPLAN report. The report will describe your child's particular results from the Reading, Writing, Spelling, Language Conventions and Numeracy testing. The report will also show how your child performed in relation to Australian minimum standards. NAPLAN results are reported against proficiency standards with 4 levels of achievement to give teachers, parents and carers clearer information on how students are performing.
