F/1/2 News

The F/1/2 class have had an amazing start to the school year. They have been settling in well and getting used to the new routines and expectations for their year level. There have been many new friendships formed and the whole class are getting along really well.

Over the past two weeks, in Maths, the students have been focusing on Number. This involves developing their knowledge of counting, writing numbers, partitioning numbers (breaking them into smaller units) and place value. We will continue to work on these concepts over the next fortnight.

In English, we have started learning about our Letterland Phonics characters and developing our reading skills. We are focusing on developing our letter/sound knowledge and blending sounds together to read increasingly complex words.

For writing, we will be focusing on recounts and retells for this semester. This will involve students writing about their weekends, events that have happened in the past, and retelling stories. The students will learn that recounts need to be factual about what happened and that we need to write the events in order.

The students have also enjoyed participating in Walker Learning. They have been investigating and participating in the learning experiences provided. Some of the skills that the students have been developing during these experiences are making friends, writing, dressing, spatial awareness, conflict resolution, and creativity.

In Subject Focus (formally Cross Curriculum), we have been learning about belonging to places. Last week the students participated in a mini research task in partners, where we looked up places and events that have happened in Rushworth.

We have also had our first Ollie Online session. They students enjoyed singing the songs and learning about online safety.

3/4 News

Welcome back everyone!

We have been enjoying ourselves immensely in the grade 3/4 classroom.

Already we have had many new and exciting activities.

We have enjoyed having Tim our AUSLAN eductor in our classroom every second Wednesday. Tim has some great ideas and games we can use to learn AUSLAN. I was extremely impressed with the way everyone watched for Tim's instructions and followed along.

In cross curriculum we are learning about 'belonging'. We have used a cheese platter to discuss that while each cheese may be different they all still belong on the cheese platter (we also got to try some new foods!)

We have started a new spelling program this year called soundwaves. This program has been excellent so far, we hope to see some improvements in our spelling skills this year.
