Foundation

The Foundation students have had a wonderful start to school. They have been busy learning the routines of the classroom and enjoying the new Foundation learning spaces.

During our daily phonics sessions we have begun learning our first set of letter/sounds s, a, t and p. Students have been interacting with Heggarty (a phonics program) where they have been segmenting and blending words and becoming familiar with rhyming patterns through nursery rhymes. They have learned whiteboard expectations and have been practising peggy leggo cues to assist with their handwriting.

Years 1 and 2

Welcome families and students to the 1/2 area for 2024!

We have been excitedly preparing for our students and classes and have been impressed with the way students have transitioned and settled into their new learning spaces.

The class structure in our 1/2 area this year is:

Year 1A: Miranda Hausler

Year 1B: Amanda Ross

Year 2A: Zoe Hayes

Year 2B: Harney McKinnon

Year 2C: Kathy Mangan & Bree Guerra

We are fortunate to have the support of our LSOs: Allana Adams, Micheal Mott and Nikky Haw.

There have been a number of new students to the 1/2 space this year and it is wonderful to see the way they have been welcomed into our area and the caring manner in which our existing students have included and embraced them.

Welcome Marley, Poppy, Elloise, Arianna and Cash.

Students will continue to take home readers each night in their maroon reader pockets. Your child will also have access to readers and activities online through the 'Decodable Readers' program. Information and login details were sent home last week. Please see your child's TA if you have any questions about how to use this program.

Each student is encouraged to bring an art smock to school which can be stored in their classroom. To borrow from our school library, students will need to bring a library bag to school on their class library day. Families will have received a timetable of when your child has specialist classes. If you have not received this please get in touch with your child's TA.

Year 1

Year 1 students are enjoying learning together in our combined learning space. Miss Hausler and Mrs Ross have been super impressed with the way students are using their 5 L's for learning and showing kindness towards one another.

We have practiced handwriting on whiteboards, in our books and even on each other's backs! Another learning highlight was using an app on our iPads to decode and spell words. We have played dice games in maths, met some footy players and were lucky enough to visit the new Foundation rooms and see their guinea pig! We are looking forward to our Year 1 Stayback which will happen on Thursday 29th February.

What a busy start to the year!

Year 2

Year 2 students have enjoyed settling into their 'new' rooms after working in this learning space last year in Year 1. Teachers have been impressed with their eagerness to take on jobs and responsibilities within their rooms.

We have had fun learning about the duration of time including calendars and dates and about Early Asian Civilisations in Literacy. We are creating some lovely self portraits in RE to discover more about ourselves and how we are special or unique. We have given thanks to God for the things we are thankful for.

We are looking forward to our Year 2 Sleepover. This will be held on Thursday 7th March.
