2024 Collingwood College Swimming Carnival
On Tuesday 20th February, Collingwood College students from Years 5-10 made their way over to the Fitzroy Swimming Pool to compete in the 2024 Collingwood College Swimming Carnival. Though a cooler start to the day, the sun was soon beaming down over Fitzroy which encouraged many more students to submerge into the depths of the cool water !
The free-play area and novelty House events were a break to the competition. It was wonderful to see so many of our students, in all year levels, being active in the water together, enjoying this event with their peers and mixing with the staff.
All houses saw some strong competitors in the Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke events. It was terrific to have such strong participation rates amongst our younger competitors who will have undoubtedly earnt their houses many, many points. Congratulations to Bottlegum Blue for overall House winner of the day.

2024 International Captain and Vice-Captain Election
During our International Students meeting on Wednesday, March 19, 2024, in Room 307, we conducted elections for our International Students Captain and Vice-Captain positions. Four candidates were running for these roles and they are all from Year 9. The candidate delivered speeches to encourage their fellow international students to vote for them.
After tallying the votes, we are delighted to announce that Alison has been elected as the International Captain 🌺, and Charlotte is our new Vice-Captain 🌷.
Congratulations to Alison and Charlotte for their new role! When you see them, please congratulate them on their achievement. 🎉
International Students Lunar New Year celebrations
On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, during our regular compulsory Homework Club, the International students at our Collingwood Campus gathered together to celebrate Lunar New Year 2024, which marks the year of the dragon. Despite the hot weather, the kids were in high spirits. Our Program Leader, Felicia, kicked off the celebration by warmly welcoming the new international students and expressing her best wishes for their educational journey at Collingwood College. The children exchanged Happy Lunar New Year greetings in various languages.
The excitement reached its peak when each student received a New Year red bag, and half of them were fortunate enough to pick a bag with money inside. The value of the money varied from $5 to $1, and this generous contribution came from Lucy, their school mummy.
The students indulged in their favorite food, pizza, alongside some traditional Asian dishes like spring rolls, fried triangles, and fried knots. It was heartwarming to witness kids from different countries and cultural backgrounds mingling harmoniously.
Best wishes to all the international students for the new year. We hope they will have countless happy and unforgettable memories during their time at Collingwood College. 🎉🧧🥟🍕
Harmony Week at Collingwood College
Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It's about inclusiveness and respect for everyone. Here at Collingwood College, we recognise our beautiful diversity, and we celebrate the richness in language, culture, beliefs that can be found in our community.
We have been asking students and staff members a question since last week - "What matters to you?"
At the end of the day, we may be different, we may value different things in our lives, but we all appreciate the beauty of being able to live in harmony, here in Australia, where #everyonebelongs
Throughout the week, we had organised several exciting events for our students and communities to participate in.
On the 20th of March, the Language team took over and organised some Chinese cultural activities like Chinese dragon dance, lion dance and craft. The response from the students were fantastic and the event was filled with so much laughter and eager participation.
On the 21st of March, the SRC has organised an event called 'Dress up and share your culture'. It was so delightful to see students and teachers wearing traditional outfits of their culture proudly for the day.
Later that evening, we had our Iftar Celebration, and it was just a night filled with great food, amazing fellowship and sharing of conversations. We had such a massive turnout and it was heartwarming to see the community coming together to share this meal. A lot of hard work has gone in to make this event so successful and we would like to extend our appreciation and acknowledgement to our Community Liaison Officers - Hussein Ibrahim, Badria Mustafa, Hassen Mohamed-Saeed and also our Food Technology Assistant, Fatma Eryilmaz for organising the ins and outs of this event. We were also very honoured to have Edward Crossland (Mayor of Yarra), Gabrielle De Vietri (State Member for Richmond), Dan Tang, Wendy Tang and family (Collingwood Rotary Club) spending their evening with us at our Iftar event.
Once again,
The school leadership would like to thank all teachers, staff members, students and families who have come together to celebrate diversity and relationships with us.

Celebrating World Poetry Day
World Poetry Day was established in 1999 with the aim of supporting linguistic diversity through poetic expression and to give voices to poems of endangered languages.
World Poetry Day just happened to fall on Harmony Day this year and provided the perfect opportunity to celebrate culture and language.
Some of our students gathered in the library with English teachers to construct blackout poetry and spine poems while others were able to read a poem dedicated to their birthday from the poetry anthology - A Poem For Every Day Of The Year!
Thank you for the fun - The English Faculty
