Learning Advocate Time (LAT)

A new addition to SCSC student's timetables for 2024, LAT has been created to provide a formal learning advocate for each student, every year. Each morning students will be required to go to a 10-minute session called ‘Learning Advocate Time’ (LAT) with their learning advocate and other same-age peers.

Our learning advocates are responsible for supporting our young people to live up to our new school motto of ‘Embrace challenge, achieve excellence’. This is done through tracking and supporting each young person’s wellbeing, learning, attendance, and uniform.

The learning advocate will be a first point of contact for students and their carers when seeking support along their educational journey.

Tech Support - Introduction

Hello, I’m Shaun Miller, my role is Digital Learning Specialist at Surf Coast Secondary College, this means I support our community to get the most out of our digital systems and learning data in a safe and informed manner.

This post is just a quick introduction, as I will be regularly communicating ideas and news relevant to the schools digital systems and digital learning. These posts will contain links, videos and information as appropriate, all of which will be available on an individual website for you to access at any given point. You’ll find a link to that space below.

Something that we are really excited about is supporting our students to engage in their learning data in a hands on manner. Over the coming weeks they’ll be tracking and interpreting their assessments while learning how to maintain and interact with spreadsheets. I’ve included a screenshot of the types of things they’ll be able to do below and you will get a chance to engage with it more as they have more data and results available.

2024 Music Program

SCSC will continue to offer our free instrumental lessons to Year 7 students only.  Our experienced team will still conduct group instrumental lessons in singing, guitar, bass drums and piano/keyboard.

We will also offer beginner to advanced lessons in those instruments from year 8 to 12. To facilitate this, we welcome our team of teachers and offering paid lessons (as individual lessons or in small groups). We are very pleased to welcome Indianna Wylie to the team for 2024. Callum Watson (Piano/Keyboard), Immanuel Dreessens (Drums/Percussion) and Evan Jones (guitar/bass) will continue to work in the program.  Students who studied with these teachers last year will get be offered the opportunity to continue classes in 2024 but there are a number of spaces available to those who would like to begin private lessons this year. If you are interested in your child beginning with one of these teachers please contact the College office ASAP as their timetables will fill up quickly.
