Year 7 & Year 12 Welcome Day

On the 30th of January, we welcomed our new Year 7 students and our Year 12 students for 2024.

With a BBQ lunch, a visit from Larry the therapy dog from Surf Coast Youth and time in the beautiful sunshine, today has been an excellent start to their schooling year.

A special mention to distribution of the 2024 Year 12 jumpers – a much awaited event!

Year 7 Family Picnic

We had a great night on Wednesday the 7th February, welcoming our Year 7 families of 2024 to our annual welcome picnic.

Everyone sat out on the grassy knoll, out the front of our canteen and enjoyed a BBQ dinner and some families were happy to bring their own good fare on the night. This was a wonderful opportunity to families to meet with their young person’s key teachers and connect with other families.  It had a great vibe and was wonderful to put faces to names.

Head Start Brain Battle

Congratulations to our numeracy and literacy Head Start Brain Battle winners. These students embraced the competition challenge and achieved excellence in their results to take out the win for either literacy or numeracy in their year level.

Congratulations Taylor W, Taitum M, Eachyn F, Elyan P and Byron L!

Vocational Major OH&S Bounce Excursion

Students were required to observe Occupational Health and Safety procedures, assess hazards and risks and complete a risk assessment, and of course show off their epic skills on the equipment!

Year 9 Physical Education

Our Year 9 PE class have been learning about mental health and a game of Volleyball during practical class.  Great participation by all students!

Head Start for Year 10 Outdoor Ed.

Year 10 Outdoor & Environmental Studies have started strong.  During head start, students learnt how to read topographical maps using clay and paint. Students worked together to build 3D models of an area of a map, they needed to follow the contour lines for best results.

Last Tuesday, the class had their first (of many) excursions. Students battled the strong currents to snap a few waves down at Torquay Surf Beach. Was a great session, with spirits high.

Sports Leadership

Sports leadership will be looking at developing skills as leaders in a variety of sports. Year 10s will work with Year 7 students to lead them through a series of minor games, focussing on developing fundamental movement skills. Year 10 sports leadership students are playing lots of different minor games, to help create their own unique minor game.

There has been great participation by all students thus far!

SCSC Alumni '90s Club'

As we begin a new year, it is also important to reflect on the student accomplishments that made last year so wonderful at SCSC. We are immensely proud of the individuals below, achieving excellence within their studies with ATAR scores above 90.

Congratulations alumni, and we wish this year is filled with adventure and success!
