A DAY OF CAMP – Recount of Day 2 (by anonymous Year 7 student)
The walk from the boat ride back to the actual beach felt like eternity, but finally we could just go swimming. On Thursday, the second day of camp, we had got up sooooo early!!! First up was caving and personally I felt that it was too complicated for 9am, but it was alright. After that, we were supposed to do swimming but it got changed and we had to do the boat ride next. I was excited for the boat ride and to see the seals, but the walk up and down the stairs was going to be TORTURE!
We had finally walked down the, what felt like thousands and thousands of steps, but we finally made it. We walked on the beach first for half an hour, patiently waiting until we could get in the ocean and swim. We had walked about 10 minutes away from where all our stuff was dumped near the building on the beach when we saw a puffer fish just washed up on dry land. It was pretty small, but apparently they were very poisonous. We also saw this big blobby jellyfish washed up as well. There were blue bottles EVERYWHERE at this end of the beach, so everyone had to be very careful where they stepped. Jasmine and I were looking very closely at the blue bottles and picking up handfuls of sand with the blue bottles sitting on top so we could get a closer look. But then jasmine threw the handful of sand with the blue bottle on top at me!
Finally!! We could go swimming, after waiting and walking around for half an hour. We didn’t spare a second rushing up to all our stuff and grabbing our towel and putting our bathers on. We all went in the water and the waves were MASSIVE! Like they were huge, which made it more fun. Jasmine, Erica and I all though that it would have been better if we were surfing today because there were bigger waves than there were for surfing yesterday. These wavers literally swept us off our feet and they made us get launched because they were so strong! There was this really big wave and it swept over me and it felt like I was going under and I popped up out of the water to breathe, but before I could another massive wave swept over me again! I felt like the wave was beating me up! Finally, I popped up out of the water and wasn’t beaten anymore.
We all got out of the water slowly, but eventually we all got out. We all dried off and got changed and then waited for the other group coming from the boat ride before we could leave. The other group finally came, just one after the other slowly, but they made it. We all got on the two buses and in the cars and started driving back to camp.
The whole day was pretty fun and was probably the best day of camp (but swimming was definitely my favourite activity of the day). All the other activities were nice but swimming with massive waves in the ocean topped it all off.
