Acting Deputy Head of College News

Ms Jennifer Smeed

Today we gathered for our Inaugural Mass at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. It was a wonderful event where we came together as a whole community for Eucharist, to celebrate the investiture of our 2024 leaders and seniors, and to recognise the Years 5-10 Semester 2 Academic award recipients. I congratulate all the boys acknowledged for their achievements today and for the way that all students took the opportunity to respectfully participate in this important occasion.

A great thanks must be extended to those involved in making today’s celebrations possible:

  • Our College Chaplain, Fr Alatini
  • The Mission team led by Mrs Anna Nasr
  • Student musicians and Music staff – Melanie Stewart, Alison Braidwood and Samantha Blakeney, led by Andrew Butt
  • Ellen Kassulke, Events Coordinator and the Events and Marketing Team
  • The Academic Care Team led by Mrs Roxanne Roseberg
  • Jack Johnson and Dylan Gower for AV and video
  • The Services team led by Matthew Tarlington
  • The Pastoral Care Team led by Mr Peter Serone
  • All parents, carers and family members who attended
  • All staff present, supervising, moving students for transport, preparing lunches, presenting and contributing.

Academic Monitoring Week

Many thanks to our Academic Care Team who have guided our Pastoral Group teachers through the academic monitoring and mentoring of our Years 5–9 which will occur this week. Each student will be engaged in a reflective and focused discussion regarding their work to date and their academic goals for this term.

College Uniform

A sincere thank you for the combined approach to ensuring our students are smartly attired. In particular, thank you for ensuring our young men a wearing the new formal hat to and from school. The standard of uniform has been very good this week. We’ll need to continue to work together to ensure this is maintained.

Co-Curricular Activities

Congratulations to all our young men who have involved themselves with this term’s Sports and Cultural activities. The campus has been busy with boys getting involved in theatres, creative arts rooms, courts and fields. Today we saw our wonderful musicians play beautifully at the Inaugural Mass. Congratulations to these boys on their preparation and performance. We also look forward to the formal commencement of AIC Round 1 AFL, Cricket, Volleyball and Swimming. Best of luck to all of these teams.

How Can I Help or Get Involved?

Many of our parents are keen to help in some way to contribute to the Marist community that we are so well known for. Two ways to do this are through volunteering in the College Tuckshop during the day, or through the Sports Canteens on the weekend.

If you would like to volunteer in the Tuckshop during the day, please click on the relevant link below. Our Tuckshop convenor Josie Loucas will take your details and be only too happy to welcome you into the Tuckshop volunteer family. If you are too nervous to volunteer on your own, there is always the possibility of signing up with a friend. Just let Josie know if you want to be there at the same time as a buddy and I know she will help you out. We have parents who leave at the end of their son’s schooling journey commenting on how much they loved their regular (weekly, fortnightly or even term-by-term) Tuckshop catch-up with friends over the years.

For Sports Canteen volunteers, please keep an eye out on the App for calls to sign up. Remember – if you feel more comfortable with a friend, please rope them in and take them along. The more the merrier!
