1. Tell us a little about your life outside of teaching/working? Eg. Family, hobbies. Passions
I am from a large family with many siblings and grew up on farms in NSW, South Australia and Victoria. My immediate family are my husband, Sven, my daughter Alana and my son Dominic. I love spending time with family whether it is getting together at the farm (in the sunny Northeast of Victoria), going for walks along the river and exploring the outdoors or bbqs, dinners or activities with family in Melbourne. I enjoy music, gardening, visiting galleries, museums and parks.
2. How did you end up teaching/ working at Marian College?
I linked in with the Catholic Education Office after finishing Uni and had been working at some different jobs. Sr Brigid Arthur, who was one of the Co-Principals at the time, contacted me about teaching at Marian. The College was moving from being a Year 7 - 10 school to VCE and there was a great opportunity for new teachers. Sr Brigid offered me the chance to work in different subject areas with many other new teachers. I have been very lucky.
3. What do you like most about teaching/working at Marian College?
The people - the students, the colleagues, the families.
There are so many wonderful connections and stories, you build great relationships and I am privileged to share in people's journeys.
4. What are the biggest challenges facing teachers today?
Time to complete everything that you want to get done, in the way that you want to do it.
To ensure that we meet the many complex demands in this Internet age, but take time to also look after those closest to us and care for our own wellbeing.
5. What are the biggest challenges facing teenage girls today?
Navigating an ever increasingly complex world with all the complications of social media and the digital and internet environment. This has made the world a very small place and young women need to have the space and time to reflect on what is really important and be given time to grow.
