Principal's Message

As the new Principal of Marian College, I am thrilled to share my reflections on an extraordinary first month. The warmth and openness of our community have truly exceeded my expectations, making my transition into this role both exciting and heartwarming. The initial weeks have been a dynamic journey, filled with a plethora of activities that mark the beginning of our academic year. It's been a period of vibrant engagement, drawing me closer to the heart of a community that is eager to connect. The opportunity to meet and interact with our students has been particularly rewarding. Their confidence and willingness to engage are inspiring. It's a testament to the supportive environment that Marian College fosters, encouraging our students to thrive.

2024 College Theme

At our first full school assembly we launched our theme for the year: Hope: A Sense of Purpose. While at first glance the theme may suggest an abstract, intangible concept, it's deeply set in the practical, everyday actions and decisions that shape our lives. Hope is the driving force that propels us forward, offering a beacon of light in the darkest of times. This sense of purpose is not just about optimistic wishing; it's about setting a direction, making deliberate choices, and taking concrete steps to turn our aspirations into reality. Through hope, we find the strength to confront obstacles, the courage to embrace change, and the inspiration to forge a path that leads to fulfillment and satisfaction. Reflecting on this, the scripture from Romans 15:13 resonates deeply: "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." This verse encapsulates the essence of hope as a divine gift that not only guides us but also fills our lives with joy and peace, reinforcing the idea that with faith, our sense of purpose is ever strengthened and renewed.

Excellence Assembly

Each year we celebrate our Year 12 students from the preceding year at our Excellence Assembly where we celebrate the achievements of our high performers. We were privileged to hear from our 2023 Dux, Olivia Sloman who embodies what an all-girls secondary education at Marian College can provide. We extended our congratulations to all our high achievers and expressed our best wishes for their future endeavours.

I also congratulate the current Year 12 students who completed an accelerated subject last year and wish all students of the Class of 2024 all the very best for this year. We know they have great potential and look forward to supporting them to achieve their personal best.

It is important that all our students develop self-confidence and embrace all opportunities to realise their goals. Our assembly acts as a reminder that success can be achieved through various paths. While academic accomplishments are indeed noteworthy, they represent just one aspect of success.

Investiture of Student Leaders and the Commissioning of the new Principal

Participation in leadership at Marian is at an all-time high because there are no barriers for students who want to contribute to their community and pursue personal growth.  Our students want to lead,  demonstrating a strong desire to serve and make a positive impact. All our leaders will be honoured during the Investiture Assembly, which will also include the Commissioning Ceremony of the new Principal. I extend an invitation to everyone to join us for this event, as we celebrate our commitment to serving our community. Keep an eye out for the Operoo invitation. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday March 5th at St Leopold’s Church on Fitzgerald Rd at 9.15.am

Lent

As we find ourselves in the liturgical season of Lent, it's a time for reflection, prayer, and preparation. This period offers us a unique opportunity to deepen our understanding and commitment to our faith. Lent encourages us to engage in acts of kindness, to give up something meaningful as a form of sacrifice, and to focus on personal growth. It's a moment to reassess our lives and align more closely with our values and beliefs. For students, Lent can be a journey of discovering how to live more purposefully, showing compassion to others, and strengthening our relationship with God. Let's embrace this season as a chance to make positive changes in our lives and in the lives of those around us, remembering the profound significance of this time in our Christian calendar.

In conclusion, I am genuinely excited about becoming part of the Marian College community. I express my gratitude to everyone in the community for their warm welcomes and thoughtful messages. I eagerly anticipate the chance to meet each student and their families, celebrating their achievements and offering support whenever necessary.  Above all, I am excited about the opportunity to build enduring connections within the school, fostering a culture of empowerment and innovation for girls' education. This vision includes creating an environment where every girl feels valued and inspired to pursue her unique path, and integrating cutting-edge educational practices that prepare our students for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
