Classroom accommodations

Quality Differentiated Teaching Practices are all of the things that our classroom teachers do to support all students to engage in the Australian Curriculum. Often our neurodiverse students and in particular Autistic students benefit greatly from the following teaching practices:

  • Sensory tools
  • Scheduled breaks
  • Supportive work area
  • Visual reminders
  • Providing appropriate feedback
  • predictable routines

As well as classroom accomodations Modbury P-6 also has a Regulation Space available for students to use when they need a regulation break. This space can be used proactively, in the time of need as well as a space for social skills development in small groups.

Staff are always available to support students regulate and to understand their emotions. An example of a restorative conversation template is one of the ways we can support students to talk about a situation in a safe and supportive way and to give them tools to re-engage with the learning.
