Year 5, 6 and 7 Welcome Mass

This week's Welcome Mass, barbecue and information evenings provided an excellent opportunity for new students and their parents to engage with our College community outside of the classroom. The Very Rev Dr David Ranson, Vicar General of Broken Bay led the Mass in the spirit of the College, along with providing many words of wisdom for the journey of growth that is ahead for our new students.

The National Youth Science Forum

Over the Christmas break Year 12 students Cooper Anderson, Spencer Anderson and Samuel Cummins attended the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) Year 12 program in Brisbane and Canberra. Over six-hundred STEM students stayed at residential colleges at The Australian National University and the University of Queensland for a week of visits to science and technology organisations, careers days, specialist lectures and meeting Year 12 students from across Australia with similar passions for science.

From a session with the ANU Solar Car Racing team to going inside the concrete segment manufacturing facility for the 27km of tunnel required for Snowy Hydro 2.0, the NYSF was truly an eye-opening experience for seeing the STEM opportunities available at university and beyond. We are very grateful for the support of Mrs Schuster and Ms Bamber in applying for this opportunity and we hope that St Pius X students in the future consider this program.

High Achievers Symposium

On Tuesday after the High Achievers ceremony Year 11 and 12 engaged in a Q&A format symposium with the Class of 2023 high achievers. Students asked many questions around staying committed, routines, study habits and social media management. The Class of 2023 were able to offer valuable insight into managing the HSC and advice they wished they received at the beginning of Year 11 and 12.

As students we found this most valuable; the advice was relatable and the engagement was responsive as it was coming from fellow students.
