Year 1 Literacy

Year 1 Literacy

In Reading, students have been exploring the distinctions between fiction and non-fiction texts. They closely examined the fairy tale "Little Red Riding Hood" and its sequence of events. Working in small groups, students organised the story of Little Red Riding Hood in chronological order. They successfully noted that fiction stories require sequential reading, unlike non-fiction texts.

In Writing, Year 1 students have been exploring the genre of 'Recount'. They are discovering that a recount includes a title, orientation, sequence of events, and a conclusion. Additionally, we are focusing on the 6+1 Writing Traits, especially the trait of 'Word Choice'. To enhance their word selection, students are using description bubbles to develop their vocabulary for their personal recounts. Stay tuned for the students' upcoming recounts which they will be working on in the following weeks! Watch this space!

Happy reading - Mitch, Angela and Marseal!
