Year 5 Digital Technology

Year 5 Digital Technology - Binary Code

Throughout the year, students in Year 5 will focus on the Digital Technology (DT) curriculum, covering a range of topics aimed at building students’ understanding and skills in computational thinking, information systems, and digital systems.

The Year 5 students have begun their exploration of ‘DT’ by focusing on understanding binary code. Binary code is a system of representing text, computer processor instructions or other data using the binary number system, which uses only two digits: 0 and 1. It is the fundamental language of computers and digital systems, enabling them to process and store information.

Students experimented with writing their own words, messages and sentences in binary code.

Can you work out what these binary codes mean?
