Literacy in Year 3

Literacy in Year 3

Learning Intention: We are learning how to write a persuasive text.

Success Criteria: I can convince someone to do something by giving three reasons.

What are we doing in writing?

Aiden: "We are writing a persuasive letter to Darren to convince him that we should be in the new building next year or to make our current classroom better."

What does the word ‘persuade’ mean?

Alara: "It means that you are trying to get someone to do what you want them to do."

How do you persuade someone?

Jacob: "You can give reasons, for example, why you want something and why someone should get it for you."

Why should you get to be in the new building next year?

Asher: "We should be in the new building next year because if we have to wait any longer the buildings won’t be new anymore."

What’s interesting about the new building?

Joelle: "They have a green screen and a corner to record yourself so you can hear yourself clearly."

Hesilu: "They have two comfy zones to sit at."

Agamnoor: "They have taps that are near their classrooms so they can get water easily."

George: "They have an indoor soccer field near them."

We went to visit the new building and imagined what it would be like if our classroom was there.

We took down some notes of things we saw, heard, felt, smelt and even tasted in the new building.

We then came back to our classroom and wrote a letter to Darren to try and convince him to either let us be in the building next year or to revamp our current classroom.
