District Cross Country
I had the pleasure of attending the District Cross County last week and continue to be so proud of our students. It was great to see our school values at work. Cross country is a demanding event that requires determination, persistence and resilience, and our students certainly rose to the challenge. They encouraged one another, showed great sportsmanship and dug deep when the course became tough. Congratulations to all who took part, and we wish Alana all the best as she represents our District at the Division Cross Country on June 3rd.

Mothers Day at BPS
Our school community came together to celebrate Mother’s Day with warmth, gratitude, and plenty of smiles. Students enjoyed creating thoughtful cards, gifts, and special classroom activities to show appreciation for the wonderful mothers, grandmothers, carers, and special people in their lives. A huge thankyou to Rommie for the donation of brooches for our children to give to their special person. They were just lovely! We hope you enjoyed your afternoon tea and special plant, and we will keep our Mothers Day walk for next year and hope that the weather is a little more favourable.
Reconciliation Week
This week our school has recognised National Recognition Week by teaching our children about shared histories and cultures. This year's theme is "All in" to encourage all Australians to work together towards a more united future.
Education Week celebrations.
It was wonderful to see so many of our grandparents and special persons visit our school for Education Week. It was delightful to see the engagement in our classroom learning sessions and student led tours around our playgrounds. The assembly led by our school captains was a highlight. I know that our visitors enjoyed watching the children present our school values, sign the National Anthem, school oath and 'We are Australian' using their AUSLAN skills. The yummy treats baked by our Hands on Learning team was a perfect way to end the day. Great work everyone!
Attitudes to School Survey
Each year schools are required to conduct the Attitudes to School Survey (AToSS) for students in Grades 4 - 6.
The AtoSS is a voluntary student survey offered by the Department of Education every year to help schools and the department understand
students' experiences of school.
This survey will be conducted in week 7 (commencing Monday June 1st)
We encourage all students to participate in this survey, however if you do not wish your child to complete the survey please ensure that you email the school at bittern.ps@education.vic.gov.au no later than Friday 29th May.
Student Reports & Parent/Teacher Interviews
We will be providing student achievement reports for Semester 1 this year as usual.
The reports will be distributed on Tuesday 23rd June.
The reports will continue to provide important details about student learning attainment, but full descriptive comments may not be included as a result of industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union.
We will of course be pleased to discuss with you your child’s progress at our next parent-teacher interviews scheduled for Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th June from 3 - 4.30pm. Bookings can be made on Compass.
A reminder that Tuesday 9th June is a pupil free day and students are NOT required at school. This is the day after the Kings Birthday long weekend. Please mark this date in your calendar.
Principal Leave
A quick note to inform our community that I will be taking some leave at the end of this term. I will be enjoying 2 weeks long service leave at the end of this term. I will be 'back on deck' at the start of Term 3. During my absence there will be an Acting Principal from another school. Details to be advised.
