Play It Forward: A Playground Designed by Students, for Students
In Term 4, 2025, our Stage 3 students embarked on the exciting “Play It Forward” design project. Students engaged in a hands-on, project-based learning experience during Science & Technology and Learning Time, applying the design thinking process to develop inclusive playground concepts that reflect what Edgeworth Public School students value most in their play spaces.
Working alongside occupational therapists, playground designers, and our Department of Education ASO, students explored how play spaces can support all learners and play styles.
At the Christmas Carols event in Term 4, 2025, parents, students, and families were invited to vote for their preferred playground design, helping to inform the final selection process.
Originally, the school had planned to complete the project in two phases over two years. However, at our recent P&C meeting, the school and the P&C worked collaboratively to propose a way forward for the inclusive playground project. Following extensive discussion and consideration, the P&C officially voted to contribute $100,000 towards the construction of both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the inclusive playground on the tiers. The school will contribute a further $120,000 to the project.
This decision means we can now begin construction this year, allowing our students to access an exciting, inclusive, and engaging play space much sooner. Completing both phases together will also generate significant cost savings compared to staging the project over future years.
We are incredibly proud of what our school community has achieved through fundraising efforts, grants, canteen profits, and community support to make this project a reality. Thank you to everyone who has contributed along the way, this playground will be something truly special for all Edgeworth Public School students.

NSW Public Schools Parent Survey
In Term 2, we are inviting parents and carers to participate in the NSW Public Schools Parent Survey. This survey gives you the opportunity to share your experience at our school, including communication, inclusion, wellbeing, and how your child’s learning is supported.
Hearing directly from our parents and carers will help us understand what’s working well and identify areas for improvement. Participation is optional, responses are anonymous, and it takes around 10 to 15 minutes to complete. You can access the survey at Survey Login.
Survey information and the link will be sent home to families tomorrow, Tuesday 12 May.
Kindergarten OT Write Start Program
This term, our Kindergarten students have been participating in the OT Write Start Program, led by the University of Newcastle, which focuses on developing essential skills for early writing success. Through interactive and play-based experiences, students have been strengthening their fine motor skills, improving hand control and coordination, and practising correct letter formation.
The program has provided students with opportunities to build confidence and independence in their writing while engaging in meaningful and enjoyable learning activities. It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm and progress demonstrated by our Kindergarten learners throughout the program.
