2026 Education Week

Education Week is an annual celebration of public education in Victoria. In 2026, Victoria celebrates Education Week from Monday 18 May to Friday 22 May. This year’s theme is ‘Showcase your school’, encouraging school communities to celebrate what’s great about their school. There are so many great things about Hazel Glen College, from our people to our College facilities, our learning programs and our supportive College community. It's all here at our College!

To celebrate Education Week, students will be engaging in a range of enriching classroom activities, and our Year 5 students will be leading a selection of lunchtime clubs.

  • Prep students will be making The HGC Rainbow by highlighting the sensory experiences at school - sights, sounds and feelings
  • Year 1 & 2 students will be finding the Happy HGC Hangouts by highlighting our physical spaces and play areas
  • Year 3 & 4 students will highlight the amazing people at HGC by making HGC Hero trading cards
  • Year 5 & 6 students will be completing a HGC Subject Spotlight to highlight all our specialist  subjects and classroom learning

Students' learning will be sharing their learning with families on Seesaw and look out for our College social posts during this week, highlighting some of the best parts of HGC.

ThinkUKnow Cybersafety Parent Session

Hazel Glen College will be hosting a ThinkUKnow presentation on Monday 15th June 2026, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM in the Performing Arts Centre (PAC) and all parents, and carers from Prep to Year 12 are encouraged to attend.

ThinkUKnow Australia is an evidence-based education program delivered nationally to prevent online child sexual exploitation. ThinkUKnow Australia is a partnership with the Australian Federal Police.

The presentation will be delivered by a local law enforcement member and/or an industry volunteer. The presentation addresses topics including self-generated child abuse material, online grooming, sexual extortion, and importantly, encourages help seeking behaviour.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn more about children and young people and the online environment, and how you can help them to be safe and responsible users of technology. For more information, you can visit www.thinkuknow.org.au.

Please book here: https://www.trybooking.com/DMCFK

It is advised that students do not attend this presentation.

Munch Monitor

A friendly reminder to please update your child’s 2026 class in Munch Monitor under their profile. We have noticed that many students are still listed in last year’s class, which is causing some confusion when delivering lunches to the correct students.

We kindly ask that you update your child’s class details as soon as possible to help ensure lunch orders are delivered accurately and efficiently.

Instrumental Music Program (IMP)

Did you know your child can learn a musical instrument right here at school?

The Instrumental Music Program is open to students in Years 2–6 and offers lessons during school hours across a wide range of instruments - including piano, voice, guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, drum kit, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, clarinet, flute, violin, viola, and cello. To enrol or find out more, visit the college website, click the Learning tab, and select IMP Enrolment. We’d love to have your child join us!

eSafety Webinars for Parents & Carers in Term 2

As part of our ongoing commitment to student wellbeing and online safety, we encourage parents and carers to explore the range of free parent webinars offered by the eSafety Commissioner. These sessions cover a variety of topics relevant to families, including online friendships, navigating screen time, social media use, gaming, and supporting children to make safe and respectful choices online. These webinars are a valuable way for families to build confidence and understanding in supporting children in the digital world.

  • Navigating screen time: tools for today’s families
  • Exploring the online experiences of boys and young me
  • How AI is influencing new online risks for children and young people
  • The trust trap: navigating friendships, pressure and manipulation online

We particularly recommend the webinar “The Trust Trap: Navigating Friendships, Pressure and Manipulation Online”, which explores the subtle and sometimes difficult‑to‑spot ways online interactions can impact friendships, identity, and wellbeing. The webinar unpacks behaviours such as exclusion, controlling dynamics, and emotionally loaded interactions that are often dismissed as “just joking.”

Parents and carers will gain practical strategies to recognise these behaviours and start supportive conversations that help children set healthy online boundaries and feel safer navigating digital friendships. This 45‑minute webinar is designed for parents and carers and can also be viewed alongside young people aged 13+, supporting shared understanding and meaningful conversations at home. While the webinar is targeted at secondary‑aged students, we believe the information is particularly valuable for our Year 5 and 6 families as students begin to engage more independently in online spaces.

In the Primary Years, we continue to place a strong emphasis on being kind, respectful, and responsible online. Recently, our Year 6 students participated in a Cyberbullying presentation delivered by the Mill Park Proactive Policing Unit, which focused on safe online behaviour and the importance of making positive choices. In addition, our Year 4 and 5 cohorts will soon take part in Kids Helpline Cyber Safety sessions, further supporting students to navigate the online world safely and confidently.
