Student Engagement and Wellbeing

Dear Wimba Families and Students,

It’s been a great and busy start to the term, with lots of exciting learning opportunities and positive moments across our classrooms.  It has been wonderful to see students settling back into routines, engaging in their learning and showing our school values each day.

Attendance

Wimba Families, I would like to introduce to you Wally the Wallaby! Wally is our Attendance Mascot to promote and celebrate positive attendance at Wimba Primary School.

Each fortnight, we will review student attendance data, and the class with the highest attendance will be rewarded with Wally the Wallaby. The Wally will stay with the class for the fortnight as a fun and visible way to recognise their achievement.

This initiative is designed to encourage strong attendance habits, celebrate improvement, and build a positive culture where every day at school matters.

Well done to 3C who had over 95% attendance for the fortnight. Students were so excited to have Wally in their classroom.

We are noticing student absences are creeping up. It's important that all students attend school everyday and be on time, ready to begin their learning at 8:50am. Arriving on time helps ensure a smooth start to the day and sets students up for success in their learning.

If your child is absent from school for three days with no explanation, you will receive a call from your child's classroom teacher. If there is no answer, we will try your emergency contacts and send you an email. We need to ensure all absences are explained.

Education Support Day

On May 16th it’s Education Support Day. Today, we celebrate the wonderful Education Support Staff at Wimba Primary School. We would like to say thank you for all the amazing work you do for our school, students, teachers and community. Your care, dedication and support make a positive difference every day and we truly appreciate all that you do.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast club has been a big hit this term. We love seeing our students drop in on Tuesday and Friday mornings to grab a piece of toast or a cup of cereal. It’s a great way to fuel your body and get energised before heading off to class to start the day.

Just a reminder that the Breakfast Club opens at 8:30am and finishes at 8:40am on Tuesday and Fridays, please ensure you grab something to eat and head over to class.

We would also like to thank our Parent Volunteers for helping and supporting our teachers with breakfast club.

Behaviour

We have noticed an increase in the number of incidents occurring throughout the school. We would like to remind all students of the importance of following our school values and meeting classroom expectations to ensure a safe, respectful and positive learning environment for everyone.

We ask parents and carers to please speak with their child about demonstrating positive behaviours at school, including showing respect, making safe choices and following teacher instructions. Working together helps us maintain a supportive and successful school community for all students.

Thank you
