Grade 6 News

This term in Grade 6, students have been engaged in a wide range of exciting learning experiences across all subject areas.
In English, we have been exploring the powerful picture book One Minute’s Silence by David Metzenthen. Students analysed the rich imagery and figurative language used throughout the text and used these techniques to strengthen their own writing. As part of this unit, students selected an image from the story and crafted a “small moment” narrative inspired by it, focusing on descriptive language and creating vivid imagery for the reader. Our next English unit will centre around the novel How to Bee by Bren MacDibble.
In Mathematics, students recently completed their unit on adding and subtracting decimals and are now finalising their learning in Measurement. Our next unit will focus on multiplicative thinking, where students will investigate prime and composite numbers, square and triangular numbers, multiplying and dividing by powers of ten, and a variety of problem-solving strategies.
In Humanities, students have been learning about the globe and Australia’s connections with other countries around the world. They explored topics such as climate, continents, trade, military alliances, and international aid. As part of this unit, students created impressive research projects investigating the connections between Australia and a country of their choice. This week, students have also begun an exciting new Astronomy unit, where they will explore space systems and deepen their understanding of the universe and beyond.

In Week 3, several students proudly represented the school at the District Cross Country event. All runners demonstrated excellent determination, perseverance, and sportsmanship throughout the competition. Congratulations to our Grade 6 student Rajvir Dhanjal for achieving 4th place in the Tarneit District and progressing through to the Divisional Championships. We are very proud of their achievement and wish them the best of luck in the next stage of competition.
