It is often said that education can transform lives, and we see that truth reflected every day at Fitzroy Primary School. As Nelson Mandela so powerfully expressed, education opens doors creating possibilities that may once have seemed out of reach. While these transformations can be profound, they are just as often found in the quieter, deeply personal ways education shapes each child’s journey.

At Fitzroy Primary School, we recognise that education is not only about academic achievement, but about fostering a sense of belonging, curiosity, and purpose. It is in the friendships our students form, the questions they begin to ask, the confidence they build, and the new perspectives they gain that we see education enriching lives. These day-to-day experiences help our students develop into thoughtful, capable and connected young people.

In today’s world, we are increasingly aware of a challenging paradox: while young people are more digitally connected than ever, many are also experiencing greater social isolation. This reality reinforces the importance of what happens within our school community each day. Schools play a vital role not only in learning, but in helping children feel seen, valued and connected to others.

The social dimension of schooling is therefore central to our work at Fitzroy. We are committed to creating opportunities for students to build meaningful relationships, to collaborate with others, and to develop an understanding and appreciation of different experiences, perspectives and ideas. These are the foundations of strong, inclusive communities.

This important work can sometimes go unnoticed because it is woven so naturally into the fabric of school life. However, at a time when social cohesion is more important than ever, it is worth recognising and celebrating. At Fitzroy Primary School, we are proud of the role we play in supporting not just learners, but active, empathetic members of our community.

Open Morning

It was truly lovely to see so many parents and carers joining us this morning. Your presence adds so much to the atmosphere of our school and reinforces the strong sense of community we value so highly. Whether you were visiting classrooms, attending activities, or simply connecting with staff and other families, your involvement makes a meaningful difference. Thank you for making the time to be part of our school life.

Interschool Sport

Our students continue to represent the school with great pride and distinction, particularly evident in the recent interschool soccer competition. The teamwork, sportsmanship, and determination shown by our players was outstanding. They conducted themselves admirably both on and off the field, showcasing not only skill but also respect for their opponents and the spirit of the game. We extend our thanks to Jenni for her organisation and support in making this opportunity possible. We look forward to hearing all the stories when our girls take their turn next week—no doubt they will bring the same energy and commitment.

Child Safe Standards

We remain steadfast in our commitment to the Child Safe Standards, ensuring that every student feels safe, supported, and valued at school. This commitment underpins all that we do, from our policies and procedures through to our daily interactions. We encourage families to continue engaging with this important work and to reach out if you ever have questions or ideas about how we can further strengthen our child-safe practices.

Annual Report

Our 2025 Annual School Report was formally tabled at our most recent School Council meeting and is now available for our community to view. The report provides a comprehensive overview of our achievements, progress, and areas for continued growth. I encourage all families to take the time to read this important document, which can be accessed via the school website.

Storytime Event

Finally, our Year 1/2 students are looking forward to participating in the National Simultaneous Storytime event at Atherton Reserve. This year’s featured book, Luna Roo, provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate storytelling as a shared national experience. Events like this highlight the joy of reading and the way stories can bring people together across communities. We look forward to a fantastic morning of literacy and connection in a beautiful outdoor setting.
