I can feel the excitement building as we prepare for the ’Colour Explosion’ just one more sleep and it will be here. Lots of scrumptious food will be available to eat. It’s going to be such a fun fantastic evening for all.
Last Thursday all the students were engaged in several activities to celebrate Harmony Week. Mrs Fisher and the Student Representative Council (SRC) had been busy organising the activities for the day. It was wonderful to see so many students come in their national dress, while others dressed in something ‘orange.’ A wonderful celebration for a very special cause.
Thank you to all our families who attended the ‘Working Bee’ on Sunday. We had a great team of workers cleaning up around the school in preparation for the ‘Colour Explosion’.
Last Friday was the House Athletics and what a marvellous celebration it was. It was our first time at the Knox Athletics Track which had only recently been refurbished. We are hopeful that we may be able to use this outstanding venue for our future House Athletic competitions. The weather was perfect. We saw all the students from Years 3 to 6 competing for their House.
This year the winning chant went to Marram House. The successful house across the day was Ngarrert. The students all showed great resilience and sportsmanship across the day. We had several students topple long standing individual records, which was an exciting highlight. The new ‘House Chants’ performed at the end of the day were most impressive. The enthusiasm and passion displayed by all teams was electric! It was wonderful to see parents, grandparents and friends in attendance cheering our athletes along. Thank you to all our wonderful parent helpers who helped on the day. I would like to make special mention of Mr Riley, for organising the event. A huge thank you to the Parent’s Association who provided and distributed the icy poles for all the students.
Next Monday we will welcome Mr Garry Dowd from the Waverley Kiwanis to present the Terrific Kids Awards. Terrific Kids is student recognition program, created by the Kiwanis Club, that promotes character development, self-esteem, and perseverance.
We are extremely grateful to the Kiwanis Club for enabling this award to be part of our student recognition program at Syndal South Primary School. Thank you, Garry, and the Waverley Kiwanis.
Early in March we called for nominations for School Council, I now can formally declare that the following nominated candidates were elected for the school council: Titaha Gillman (Benjamin 4P), Rani Bahwandi (Amberley 3F), Stephanie Ting (Dean FA) (parent representatives), Rebecca Stonehouse-Melke, Clare Searle (DE representative). I look forward to working with the new council this year.

I would like to make a special mention of our two retiring members Julie Kerr and Sisi Liang and offer them a huge thank you for all the work they have done over many years not just as council members but as actively involved parents supporting the school wherever possible.
Thank you to all our families who have so kindly donated Easter eggs, chocolates, and Easter giftware for our Easter raffle. Next Monday afternoon we have a fabulous group of our talented parents to make our Easter hampers.
The Easter raffle will be drawn at the assembly on Friday 4th April following the Easter Hat Parade which starts at 9.00 am. Students are to wear their school uniform to school with their Easter/fancy hat ready for the parade.
Finally, it is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of Term 1 and what a very busy and productive term we have had. As this is the final newsletter for the term, I would like to thank all our students, staff, and parents for your support and valuable contributions throughout the term.
I want to wish everyone a very safe and enjoyable holiday/Easter break with your family and friends as we look forward to another exciting Term ahead. The school will resume in Term 2 on Tuesday 22nd April.
