Learning in 3/4H

The Year 3/4 level has started the year with a couple of exciting excursions and incursion. Like the Year 5/6s, we went to Seaford Beach for an Open Water Learning Experience. Despite the cold weather everyone had fun.

Our first incursion for the year was called Adventures Online run by Inform and Empower. Each term we have a session with Marty so that we can be safe and responsible when online.

We learnt about the rights and responsibilities of absolutely everybody. We also learnt about being kind, clever, brave and aware when online. My favourite part of this lesson was when Zoe, Ava and Noah all learnt their lesson when Ava’s work for school was deleted. Later that night she played a game but she was being really mean to other players. The next day Ava went back to the game but she got blocked. Zoe was mad at Ava because she wrote something mean about Ava.

Harper

On Adventures Online we learnt about how to be kind, clever, brave and aware online and physically as well. Ava, Noah and Zoe showed us to think before you post. At the end of the lesson we played a game of Kahoot! to review all the things we learnt about. We always have a brain break to refresh our minds. Adventures Online is a place where we learn how to be safe online and what to do if someone cyber bullies you online. It’s always good to have one of your 5 trusted adults by your side.

Today in Adventures Online we learned all about the mind blowing Internet and we learned about being safe online. As well as the 4 important keystones, brave, kind, aware and clever, we learnt how we should think before we act- Marty’s golden rule. We listened to a story about when Ava had a bad day and spread unkind things online hurting others. Luckily, she said sorry to everyone. Then we played Kahoot! in pairs.

Today on Adventures Online we learned about the Internet where it’s not nice to bully players on gaming apps no matter who they are.

On Adventures Online we learned that we do not call people names. We should not do things you do not want people to do to you. Be aware, clever, kind and brave when online.

The Year 3/4 Term 1 Inquiry Unit is called ‘Just Look Up!’ Last week we had the Science Discovery Dome come out to the school to tell us more about space and the solar system. We will build on this knowledge over the coming weeks.

Today we went to learn about space with Nick. First, we went into this giant dome that looked like an igloo. We learnt about stars and how planets are formed. Some planets were made by rocks, some were made by gases. After that, we learnt all about our solar system. Then we ended with a recap. We had the best time ever!

We went into a dome with a space teacher. In the dome there was a projector that showed space and it would echo like a microphone. The teacher talked about space, planets and stars. This is the best incursion ever!
