What are you reading?
Every fortnight, staff and students will be invited to share with the school community what they are currently reading.
Nyakoach (Year 4)- Ella and Olivia Series
Why did you choose these books?
I started reading them last year, they were on the shelves in my classroom. They looked interesting to me and I thought I would enjoy them.
What do you like about these books?
I like the characters in the books because they remind me of me and my best friend.
Who else might enjoy reading these books?
I think Grade 3s and 4s would like reading these books.
Ashwa (Year 6)- Percy Jackson: Wrath of the Triple Goddess
Why did you choose this book?
My sister was reading the book first and I thought it looked interesting. The front cover stood out to me as soon as I saw it and the blurb made me think I wanted to read it.
What do you like about this book?
The genre and the story itself is one that I really like to read. It is a mixture of mystery, bravery, comedy and adventure. It is a fictional story based on Greek mythology.
Who else might enjoy reading this series of books?
Someone who appreciates this genre and understands that all religions can be interesting to read and learn about.
Kristina (Literacy Leader) - 'Always' and 'Triple Cross'
Why did you choose these books?
Last year, my 11-year-old son, Max, and I started reading the entire 'Once' series by Morris Gleitzman. He was very interested in fictional stories about World War 2 and we are now reading the final book in the series, Always.
I began reading James Patterson novels over 20 years ago and have never stopped since. My first book by him, Along Came a Spider, I started after reading the blurb - it had me hooked.
What do you like about these books?
I have enjoyed reading Always with Max because we read together each night and love the suspense throughout the book. We feel many emotions when we read these stories because the characters go through such horrific experiences but always manage to find happiness along the way.
James Patterson novels (for adults) have me on the edge of my seat without fail because they are filled with thrilling cliffhangers. I love to read murder mysteries and Triple Cross centres around detective Alex Cross and the murders he needs to solve.
Who else might enjoy reading these books?
Always - People aged from 11 to adults who like to read stories based on true events, from the perspective of others, who have experienced great tragedy but who remain filled with hope.
Triple Cross - Adults who enjoy the 'Thriller' genre and who enjoy a fast-paced mystery to solve.
Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge
Over the next few weeks, please keep an eye out for information about the Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge. This initiative is in its 20th year and is a wonderful incentive for children to read more from March to September. OLSC will be joining the challenge again this year, more information will be provided in the coming weeks.
