Biology Excursion

Yesterday, the college’s two Biology classes attended a workshop to undertake some DNA manipulation workshop in preparation for their first assessment.

While visiting GTAC in Parkville, our students were led by a group of PhD student supervisors from the University of Melbourne to create human insulin synthetically using a range of molecular techniques commonly used in university and industry environments.

Our students thrived using techniques such as gel electrophoresis and fluorescence microscopy, and made the most interacting with their supervisors and finding out about some the amazing research work they are carrying out in fields such as stem cell and immunological research.

Hopefully, the workshop might have inspired some of our students to follow in their footsteps.
