Relay for Life

It’s coming close to the time of year when Plenty Valley hosts our very own Relay for Life, organised by our Secondary Senate student leaders. Relay for Life is a charity event where we as a community come together to raise funds for the Cancer Council while bringing more awareness of cancer to our community.

This year, our event takes place on Friday, 28 March, on the top oval from the end of school until 10:30pm. During the school day there will be an out-of-uniform day as each year level has been assigned a colour and encouraged to wear as much of it as possible on the day. Each colour represents a different cancer and the list can be found below.

Plenty Kids, Prep, Years 1 & 2: Gold, for Childhood Cancer

Years 3 & 4: Dark Blue, for Colon Cancer

Years 5 & 6: Burgundy, for Multiple Myeloma

Year 7: Yellow, for Bone Cancer

Year 8: Green, for Liver Cancer

Year 9: White, for Lung Cancer

Year 10: Orange, for Leukaemia

Year 11: Purple, for Pancreatic Cancer

Year 12: Pink, for Breast Cancer

Students are asked to wear similar colours if they cannot find their years' colours. Family and friends are invited to wear any of the above colours.

Transition from school day to Relay for Life:

For students, the event will begin with a whole school assembly at 2:30pm, with laps commencing at 3pm and continuing until the end of the school day. Students are encouraged to stay after school for the event or go home and return when they like. Primary students choosing to stay after school need to be supervised by an adult.

It should also be noted that students must get their names marked off at the registration marquee and collect their wristbands as quickly as possible.

Tickets

Everyone attending the event after school needs to purchase a ticket and collect a wristband at the Registration Marquee

Tickets can be purchased before the day via a website link – this will be emailed to all families shortly or at the Registration Marquee when you arrive at Relay for Life.

The registration marquee will be set up on the path towards the top oval. Please be prepared to provide your name upon entry.

Registrations are, of course, welcome on the day but please note that the ‘early bird’ price is $20 for individuals or $45 for a family. This offer of a $5 discount will end on Wednesday 26th March and tickets will be $25 per person or $50 for a family of any size after. This money will all go directly to Cancer Council Victoria.

What to bring and wear:

We recommend that everyone wear comfortable shoes and warm layers as it may get cold as the night progresses. Make sure that whatever you wear is also easy to move in, as there will be lap walking before school dismissal and walking throughout the night.

We recommend bringing some money for food and activities, both cash and EFTPOS accepted.

What will the event look like:

The event will take place from 3:30pm and will run until 10:30pm but everyone is welcome to come and go throughout the night. There will be games, head shaving, live music, crafts, a dunk tank, animal nursery and other activities during the night.

There will be a BBQ with sausages, burgers, soft drinks, fairy-floss, and baked goods available for purchase. There will also be a coffee van for all your hot drinks.

The dunk tank will also be active throughout the night, where people can bid donations to dunk their teachers in cold water.

A variety of free activities will be available throughout the night, with a select few offered at an additional cost, which will go toward the fundraising.

Head shaving is always a popular way of fundraising and is being offered on the night, and offers the opportunity for students (or others) to raise funds. Alternatively, people with long hair can cut off a significant portion of their hair and fundraise for cancer research. Please contact Jessica Patterson (jessica.patterson@pvcc.vic.edu.au) to express your interest.

We look forward to seeing you there, supporting this worthy cause.

New Parents Dinner

Next Thursday 13th March we are welcoming parents of all new families to the college to sit down and "break bread" with other new parents, executive staff, board members, captains and others.

Held in the forecourt of our Multi-Purpose Hall under the lights and in view of the sunset and stunning views PVCC has to offer, this night has proven to be such a lovely night and enjoyed by all in attendance. Be sure to check your email for your invitation if you are a new family to the college and we hope you'll be able to join us!
