On Monday 3rd March, students in Grades 5 and 6 were part of an interactive incursion as part of the Bright Futures program. Our students participated in a range of STEM activities that involved problem solving, collaboration and teamwork. The excitement across the room as students explored each of the tasks was electric with the creative minds of Fyans Park at work. A big thank you to Mr Calnin for organising this wonderful opportunity for our 5/6 students.
Below some comments and feedback from our students
“I enjoyed the circuit kits with the extra pieces like the fan, sound buzzers and switches”
“I used knowledge I have learnt this term to tackle some of the harder challenges”
“I loved the VR headsets, and it was my first time using them. I found the history element of the visuals engaging and helped me to understand what it might feel like in that time”
“The marble runs were challenging with some of the task cards being quite tricky to figure out”
“I loved the setup of the incursion with the rotation activity set up because I could experience a little bit of everything”
Congratulations to the following students who represented Fyans Park by competing at the Division Swimming earlier this week – Tayla H, Zaki F, Maddie C, Leela N and Olive O.
Olive O achieved a PB (Personal best) in both of her events with Leela N a PB in the backstroke.
Congratulations to Zaki F who placed 3rd in the backstroke and to Maddie C who placed 5th overall in her events.
Tayla placed first in the 50m breaststroke and butterfly and Hugo E placed first in backstroke, with both students now off to the Regional Championships.
In speaking with students, all were very happy with how they went in the pool, and the staff and I are equally very proud of them.
Congratulations to all students who participated on the day and proudly represented FPPS.
Last week, we had a visit from Fiona Taylor, Principal of Western Heights Secondary College, along with Renee Lane – the leader of the Specialised Sports program at WHC to speak with students and staff about transition opportunities for our students in Years 4,5 and 6.
Later in the year our students in Years 4 and 5 will experience a half day transition excursion over to WHC to experience the sports program and see firsthand what the school offers. In addition to the sports program students heard about their Arts program, the languages on offer and the Year 7 Accelerate program for high achieving students.
Please see below for more information and invitation from WHC to attend their information evening to hear more about the Specialist Sports Program and sports clinics on offer for students commencing in April.
