It started off with the Grade 6's heading to Melbourne for National Young Leaders Day with Mrs.Pridham and Brett, Clean Up Australia Day, Grade 6's had their first buddies session, Grade 5's started NAPLAN testing. Read below to hear about our fabulous fortnight.
A reminder that chewing gum is not permitted at school and seems to be an ongoing issue with our 5/6 cohort. Students caught with chewing gum will be required to stay in at recess or lunch and write out our school rules. A phone call will also be made home in regards to this.
Please remember that families are always welcome to pop in to say hello and to see our classrooms before and after school.
National Young Leaders Day - Melbourne
Emma Mckeon is the most successful Australian Olympian and we got to go hear her speak at National Young Leaders Day as well as Thomas Duncan-Watt, Catherine Laga’aia and Majak Daw. We had to wake up at 4:30am to get ready and be at school by 5:15am. We left to go to the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre.
Emma Mckeon really stood out to both Aiden and I. Emma made both of us feel inspired. She has won 12 Olympic medals and 20 Commonwealth medals. She is an 8 time world record holder and I have watched her dominate against all of the other Olympic swimmers every year. She had a phenomenal speech that she should share a lot more. She became the second most successful woman competitive swimmer ever. She told us how she woke up at 5:00am every morning and had so much self-belief even when she didn’t want to get out of bed. She knew she had what it took to become one of Australia's best swimmers. She dedicated her time to swimming and really enjoyed it. She also said after every race she wrote down everything she did wrong on a piece of paper and put it to the side, then wrote the things she achieved and all of the little steps that she had to work on. She missed out on the 2012 Olympics by 0.001th of a second! She said she had the ability to accept failure and learn from it. Emma had confidence and resilience. She was very organised and ready for anything that comes her way. Emma never gave up and had a really awesome attitude. Emma said, don’t be afraid to have big dreams as nothing in life is impossible.

Clean Up Australia Day
Last Thursday it was Clean Up Australia Day. This is a day in Australia when you clean up your town. To keep our town clean, all of the Grade 5/6 students went down and picked up rubbish around Brose Oval and the Bowling Club, while the rest of students cleaned up back at the school. At Brose Oval we split up into three groups. There was Mrs Holyman’s group, Mrs Pridham’s group and last of all Josh’s group. We all cleaned for an hour, picking up a lot of rubbish. Now it looks so much nicer and tidier. Brose Oval and the Bowling Club are so much cleaner and look fantastic. Everyone did an amazing job. Remember to always put your rubbish in the bin. We reckon we did an amazing job.

Swimming Lessons
Two weeks ago, TPS went down to the Tongala Pool to do swimming lessons every day. There were four groups from confident swimmers to not so confident swimmers. We went with the grade 1/2s. We had to do safety courses and all sorts of other things. We practiced a lot of things and we even played a few games. It was really fun. We would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Young for organising this and teaching us, and Brett and Mr Hogan also.

Swimming Carnival
On a wonderful Friday, two weeks ago, we had the TPS Swimming Carnival. The swimming carnival is a competition where your house competes for points in swimming. In this fantastic swimming carnival, you are in a race with three other people in a different house. If you come in the top 3 you get a ribbon. The houses are Deakin, Odea, Curr and Finlay. There were four different races; freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and an exceptional relay race. It was a marvellous day.
