Foundation Classroom News

What a busy time it has been in the Foundation area again this fortnight!  Our Wednesday 'rest days' are over and we are so proud to be at school 5 days per week. Although we are getting a little tired by the end of the week, the children are still enjoying the learning routines and growing their skills, especially in Reading and Writing.  Well done everyone!

Inquiry

Our Inquiry topic this term is 'Shaping Identity'.  We have been exploring things that we have in common with others and things that might be different.  We have discussed how differences can be interesting and can introduce us to new ideas, activities or ways of thinking.

In the next phase of our study, students will be collating items that are important to them in a special 'identity container'. This can be a box (such as a shoe box) or a paper bag. When their identity container is complete, students will give a short oral presentation to the class, to share the things that are important to them.

AUSLAN

Have noticed your child doing some sign language or using their lip reading skills?

If so, I'm so glad that they are sharing their first learning in AUSLAN with you. We have learned the signs for square, triangle, circle, yes and eagle. It is so fun to watch them try out this new form of communication with their friends.  Each week we will be learning new signs, so please be sure to ask your child to show you what they have learnt.

Library

We greatly enjoyed our first library session with Mrs Dullard!

We listened to Mrs Dullard read 'The Concrete Garden' and were able to borrow books from our new Foundation Library Book trolley.  Thanks Mrs Dullard :-)

Tinkering, Bubbles and Playdough

In addition to more structured types of learning, our Foundation students also undertake a range of other activities to keep our minds and bodies stimulated.  This fortnight, students have played with bubbles, playdough and have even shown off their building skills.  The children never cease to surprise me with their knowledge and skills!
