P.E - Auslan - STEAM

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Our Junior students are currently developing and extending their throwing skills. Following on from Athletics we have been continuing to focus on our overarm throw but also refining our underarm throw too.

Our Middle and Senior students have begun a Softcrosse unit which is a modified version of Lacrosse. We have started familiarising ourselves with using the Softcrosse stick including scooping the ball and catching the ball.

LOTE - AUSLAN

In LOTE, the middle and senior students have been focusing on signing sentences about our school day. This has included creating sentences that include the time we complete certain subjects or activities throughout the day. It's been great to see students extend themselves to signing full detailed sentences.

Our junior students have been focusing on signing sentences about the days of the week and knowing the difference between 'today, tomorrow and yesterday'. They have created sentences about specific school days and describing which day they learn about signing and which day they learn about PE.

Our Prep students have loved their first term of signing and have started learning how to sign different colours. They have been using this knowledge to sign sentences about their school houses and which colours they love!

STEAM: Science, Technology & The Arts

We have had a few weeks with great excitement in our investigations about bees! We are fluent in our knowledge in the parts of bees and how they have adapted to be able to both collect honey and to pollinate flowers to help our food production. We have enjoyed watching videos that show close ups to show the details of the pollen collecting hairs and how the bees comb the pollen onto their back legs to carry it to the hive! We have examined the parts of flowers close up and understand where the pollen is and the job of the petals to attract bees. We also know the honeycomb has more of a role in the hive than just holding honey! It is used for storing bee bread and raising the young through their life cycle! We also have learnt how the bees collect the nectar in their honey stomachs to share it with other bees before it becomes the honey we know. The artwork that has been created has been amazing! The attention to detail is commendable! As a result our participation in the Pakenham Show on Saturday awarded Officer Primary School a Highly commended in the School section!
