PREP AA

Hello families,

We have had a beautiful few weeks, full of growth, friendships strengt and confidence blooming.

Reading and Writing:

This week in reading and writing, we have seen both fine motor and attention spans continue to flourish. Students in the Prep room have been continuing to learn speed sounds and chants for Nelly Numbat and Oscar Octopus. Students have loved having whiteboard sessions, decoding words using these sounds and exploring readers that have these sounds.

We have started practicing lower case letter formation and are slowly moving towards reading and writing sentences.

Numeracy:

We have been learning all about our left and rights, directions and patterns this week. We have been enjoying doing movement dances and the hokey pokey that require us to use our directions and patterns.

We have been using brand new hands on materials to create patterns and continue working on number recognition through playing bingo!

Harmony Day:

We enjoyed celebrating all of the cultures in the Prep AA room, we spoke about which part of the world we are all from, where our parents and grandparents are from and enjoyed traditional food from multiple families. We enjoyed seeing traditional items from Ireland and China.

Show and Tell:

Show and Tell has begun in the Prep AA room,

Each child gets a day when they can bring in a toy or tell a story to their classmates.

Monday:  Mack, Sonny, Ziggy and Serenity

Tuesday:  Scarlett, Pamela, Jackson, Theo

Wednesday: Sahas, Killian, Poppy and Brody

Thursday: Willow, Adeline and Kingston

Friday: Leigh, Thomas, Joachim and Aviro.

I am so excited to see what is coming up for the end of term and am so incredibly proud of the learning taking place in our classroom.

Reading

Students are responding well to the Little Learners Love Literacy program through daily phonics lessons. It is fantastic to see the impact this is having on their reading and writing. In reading, we have been looking at sentence structure and comparing the difference between simple and compound sentences.

Writing

We have moved onto persuasive writing for the second half of the term. Students have had a great time deciding whether they are 'Team Sweet' or 'Team Sour' and have worked hard to come up with strong arguments to support their opinions.

Numeracy

We have been using fact families to help us when solving addition and subtraction problems, along with using number lines to help us bridge to ten as we develop more efficient methods for solving problems.

In our unit on time, students have been comparing the duration of time for different activities and have explored the different seasons of the Noongar Tribe.

Harmony Day

All students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to share their culture and family history with their peers. Students had a great time participating in a variety of activities from other countries and cultures such as cooking, craft, dance and games. It was an amazing day
