Supporting Our Students Through Assessment Season – Week 8, Term 1

As we approach the end of Term 1, our students across Years 7–12 are in the thick of exams and assessment. It’s a busy time, and as Heads of Year, we want to acknowledge the effort our students are putting into their studies, and also remind families of the importance of wellbeing during this period.

At The Gap State High School, we believe in Learners Who Flourish. While academic success is important, supporting our students to feel calm, connected, and capable is equally vital. This is where our Connect program, underpinned

by the principles of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy (GEM), becomes even more relevant.

As families, you can help your young person during this time by encouraging:

  • Gratitude, by noticing small wins and moments of joy each day
  • Empathy, by showing understanding and patience as stress levels may rise
  • Mindfulness, by promoting breaks from screens, deep breaths, and time in nature
  • Emotional Literacy, by opening up space to talk about how they’re feeling, especially when things feel overwhelming

We know that exam periods can be a time of increased pressure for students and families alike, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s Head of Year if you feel they need some additional support. We are here to help.

As always, we encourage families to explore The Resilience Project Parent & Carer Hub, which is a fantastic resource to support wellbeing conversations at home. You can access the hub using the link below:

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to help every student grow through their challenges and celebrate their successes.

Warm regards,

Alison Moore – Head of Year 7

Josh Connolly – Head of Year 8

Ruth Donovan – Head of Year 9

Mikaela McGreevy – Head of Year 10

Jason Ashton – Head of Year 11

Michael Clarke – Head of Year 12
