Mr Cameron Drew - Deputy Principal – Year 9
As we reach Week 8 of Term 1, it's hard to believe how quickly the first part of the year has flown by. While it’s been a term filled with both challenges and achievements, I am incredibly proud of the way our school community has come together and shown resilience. In particular, I want to acknowledge the exceptional way our students have handled the disruptions caused by Cyclone Alfred earlier this term. Despite losing three days of school, our students have continued to adapt, stay focused, and push forward with their learning, and for that, we should all be very proud.
For many of our students, the first round of assessments is fast approaching. Whether it's your first set of exams or you’re gearing up for more practice, it’s important to start preparing early. I encourage all students to use the remaining weeks of Term 1 wisely. Organise your study schedules, review your notes, and make sure you are clear on any areas where you may need extra help. Our teachers are here to support you, so please take advantage of revision sessions and reach out if you need clarification on any topics.
Remember, preparation is key, and consistency is vital. Set aside time for focused revision each day, and try to keep a balance between study and relaxation. You’ve got this!
I am pleased to report that NAPLAN for our Year 7 and Year 9 students has kicked off smoothly this week. Our students have been doing a fantastic job so far, approaching these assessments with maturity and focus. NAPLAN is a valuable opportunity to gauge learning progress in literacy and numeracy, and I’m confident that our students will continue to demonstrate their best effort throughout the testing period.
While NAPLAN is important, remember that it’s just one of many ways we measure success, and it is always important to stay calm and do your best. I encourage all students to stay positive and approach the test with the same resilience and dedication that they bring to all their schoolwork.
As we look ahead to the end of Term 1, it’s vital that we finish the term strong. Despite the challenges we've faced, especially with the disruptions from Cyclone Alfred, our school community has shown incredible resilience. The way our students have adapted to the changes in the calendar and returned to their studies with determination speaks volumes about the strength of character in this school.
I urge all students to finish the term on a high note. Attend all your classes, engage in your work, and keep striving for excellence. The effort you put in now will not only set the tone for the rest of the year but will also build the foundation for your academic success moving forward.
To parents, thank you for your continued support and encouragement. Together, we are helping our students develop not just academically but also in terms of personal growth and resilience.
Here’s to a strong finish to Term 1, and I look forward to seeing all the great work that is yet to come!
