NAPLAN 2025
During Weeks 6 and 7 of this term, our Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students will undertake the annual NAPLAN assessments. These assessments in Literacy and Numeracy gather information about how students are progressing in school.
For teachers, NAPLAN provides data which can be used to develop priorities for whole-class teaching or appropriate intervention strategies to improve individual student outcomes. For parents, NAPLAN provides information on how your daughter is progressing against national standards and for students, NAPLAN is an opportunity for them to demonstrate what they have learned.
At Mount Carmel NAPLAN assessments are just one set of evidence we gather to monitor student learning. While students are encouraged to do their best, it is not expected that they will undertake specific study to prepare for these tests. Ultimately, NAPLAN is a learning experience, and it is important for our students to feel supported and confident, knowing that their worth is not defined by this one test.
Primary and Secondary students will have an opportunity to have a general practice prior to the testing dates, using the Public Demonstration Site which is accessible to all. This site provides an opportunity to practise the types of questions students will be asked to answer. These practices also enable us to check that the NAPLAN platform and the College’s connectivity function reliably.
Practice Tests are Scheduled at the following times:
Year 3: Thursday 6 March - 10:00am
Year 5 Navy: Thursday 6 March - 9:00am
Year 5 White: Thursday 6 March - 9:30am
Year 7: Monday 3 March - Period 3 (Maths)
Year 9: Wednesday 5 March - Period 1B
It is a priority for us that NAPLAN assessments are conducted in a calm and supportive environment in order to avoid unnecessary stress and we trust that parents and carers will support us in this endeavour. Student Support teachers will ensure all students who are eligible for adjustments are accommodated, including students who are exempt or whose parent/carers wish for them to be withdrawn.
Charged Devices
It is essential that all Year 7 and 9 students bring a fully charged laptop to school each day during NAPLAN.
Year 3 and 5 will have their devices charged as they remain at school.
Plug-in headphones/earphones
For all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 a set of plug-in headphones/earphones was listed on 2025 book lists as a requirement.
All students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 are asked to ensure their headphones/ earphones are with them at school every day. These are essential for the practice tests and the NAPLAN tests.
While the College has some devices and headphones available in case of technical difficulties, we do rely on students coming prepared for NAPLAN to run smoothly.
